302 LAPD officers cleared $300,000 last year. At the NYPD, four times the size, 15 did.
Nearly half of LA's $300,000 earners held officer or detective titles, and among the Police Officer IIs in that group, average overtime topped regular pay.

Every year LA waits, the same mile of transit gets about 4% more expensive. In real dollars, after inflation. LA built surface light rail for $100M a mile from 1990 to 2003. The same thing now costs $210M a mile.

Six of LA's ten highest-collision intersections are in the San Fernando Valley. Five of those six have no approved speed camera site within 400 meters.

A dark map of Koreatown showing the neighborhood's full boundary as a white outline over the city street grid, a broad rectangle wider than it is tall. 254 orange dots, one for every restaurant, fast food counter and cafe, gather into two dense horizontal bands along the main east-west boulevards, with far fewer on the residential blocks between them. The only text over the map is the headline: Koreatown has 94 restaurants per square mile, number one of 114 neighborhoods.
