Still believers in @credittodubois.com’s GLOMP theory, and happy to write off last week as an outlier unless this game goes horribly wrong. Melbourne’s midfield should be too good, but we’re looking at close to the strongest backline up against one of the weakest forwardlines.

Think that Geelong should get it done tonight, but I’m wary of Melbourne after how good they looked against GWS, and the fact Windsor and Pickett are back. Aren’t typically embarrassed at Kardinia Park - pretty famous win there in 2021 - and Oliver averages 39 disp there (and 32 v Geel).

Interestingly, our Back 6 rating system has them as the second best backline in the competition so far this year after finishing second overall for 2024. It's all working quite well at the moment, but you have to wonder if a lot of the weaknesses from last year are simmering just below the surface.

Big watch with Adelaide is their scores against. Despite three very comfortable wins they've conceded 72+ points in all three games and 100+ against Essendon. Wheelo currently has them ranked 12th defensively despite rating them third overall.

We won't know the flow on effects until many years down the line if the current 4-game format continues, but as it stands, 3/4 of the northern states' teams made it to the 2nd week of finals (and two played in the GF) and only 1/4 of the Victorian teams made finals at all.
