I nearly gave up on Children of Time at the start, too much repetition, Kern felt a pantomime villain and I couldn't invest in anyone. (Until Portia and then Fabian.) But... I had to keep turning pages, it grabbed me. So many excellent subtleties and social commentary. I've just started 'Ruin.

Good point, and my TV isn't 4K (I'm not a luddite, just it still works fine so no need to replace yet) so that's not an issue to me. I use my Deck docked at times so am looking at the Machine for games that the Deck can't handle.

Got my reservation too, but the reviews so far have confused me. Take Cyberpunk 2077. Some reviews say it doesn't run great on Machine, but (for me) it was fine on Deck on Ultra. Are reviewers too ambitious with settings on the Machine? I just want access to games Deck can't run, eg. SW Outlaws.

Managed to get one (I'm in the UK) after an hour of errors. I've had a dock for my Steam Deck for a year that I haven't used yet, so I'm looking forward to trying it all out when the controller arrives.

@Leshen - I played the base game and Phantom Liberty from an SD card on my Steam Deck. Now, I'm not overly sensitive to FPS (I'm old enough to remember flickering sprites in games) but it ran fine at the Ultra and High quality presets. A little, occasional slowdown in PL, but it was rare.

I think this was in ME3 not 2 (?) but "Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong." made me put my Steam Deck down and stare quietly at a wall for a few minutes. A good game can move me as much as a movie or book, it's just as valid an art form now.

I have just been approached in Morrisons by a man (and his seemingly nonplussed wife) who wanted to say he thought my work-in-progress beard was "magnificent" and "biblical". This is new to me. I knew of the 'male gaze' (and try to avoid doing it) but the 'male beard gaze' is a whole new thing.

I'm juuuust old enough to have played the original Space Invaders in an arcade. Nowadays I'd rather chill with a game rather than watch a movie, game writing can be incredible. The number of times I've had to put my Steam Deck down for a little think cos the story has hit so hard emotionally.

I've just finished God of War. I can see why loads like it but it wasn't for me, too linear fetch-questy, too many annoyances like the combat and timing required for some puzzles and didn't engage with Kratos. Now sinking into Yakuza 5, playing through the series chasing the feeling Zero gave me.

I swapped to a left handed mouse (seriously, it's shaped differently) recently during an arthritis flare up, which was annoying as I had to let it go to use a pen. But on the plus side it stopped micromanaging colleagues taking my mouse to 'show' me things as it freaked them out.

Being left handed I was scolded by my 'posh' grandmother for holding my cutlery wrong because "it will be embarrassing in Restaurants". Gran. As an adult I've managed to embarrass myself in Restaurants in many interesting and varied ways, but how I hold my knife and fork has never been one of them.

I know the XJS faced a lot of negative criticism at the time because it was so different than what went before (hmmm, sounds familiar...) but I think it's a great design, even now. The limitations of 'real' bumpers, rather than the huge pressings of today give cars so much character too.
