24 teams is too many! But, the playoff (as a concept) is catching strays when the real problem was superleague expansion.

I'm a proponent of a CFB playoff, but the way to do it AND maintain the sanctity of the regular season was by making it *primarily* auto-bids from smaller regional-based conferences where all (or at least most) teams play each other to the point that league titles aren't schedule driven.

When you listen to Derek Jeter do studio analysis, the back flip play makes perfect sense. That is, none of it makes any goddamn sense, but he's in the right place/right time to be doing it.

Having Hall ready for Ohtani/Smith, but saying with Uribe because muncy swung at one pitch well out of the zone was a choice.

Whole point of balk rule was because early MLB recognized "stolen bases are fun!" & shouldn't let pitchers try to fool runners into what is a pitch and what is not. Somewhere it became: "RHP have to come into the stretch perfectly every time" "LHP can do whatever the fuck they want"

Vesia's leg full went forward - absolutely an act to deceive the runner. MLB: .... Not a balk.

Kirk crushing on Khan's descendent was a weird plotline and it's almost like if we created completely new characters with no connections to existing characters, we wouldn't box ourselves into stupid corners that don't fit.

It's not that I don't feel sympathy - it's just that my Fs to give at any moment are finite and people who brought this on themselves are at the back of the line.

Less than 100 miles from me. I'm a late night dog walker and it's been a bad enough summer for snakes in my neighborhood with copperheads regularly basking on the sidewalks/streets, I do not need that nonsense too.

I have a guess that the Orioles aren't going to refill the biz layoffs any time soon - i.e. it wasn't about the people, but to avoid paying people with an expected prolonged lockout looming.

Every manager seems almost proud in not having a policy and "trusting their guys" on these. It's like an NFL coach telling their QB it's perfectly fine to blow all your TOs on the first drive. No, you absolutely should have a plan related to count/situation!

I still think the Orioles are a developmental hot mess, but it feels like a lot of teams are just reaching in the dark with what players can hit 98+ and what pitchers will develop to throw 98+ effectively.

Yankees also can fund depth, but for all the advantages they have there - they have an ace who they drafted off a mediocre season at a mid major who promptly gained 10 mph on this fastball in a pitching lab. ...and despite that, have scored 2 or less runs in 4 out of their last 6 LDS games

Tampa's probably closest, but they're coming off 2 losing seasons prior to this year. Everybody was singing Toronto's praises last year, which they sandwiched between 2 last place finishes. LAD have been dominant, but they've had **a lot** of misses, but have funded waves of depth to overcome.

Hot take, not to defend any current Orioles admin or executives, but... I'm not sure !ANYBODY! really has a good handle on how to develop OR project a roster in the modern velo era.

This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead

Seeing 325 feet and only a HR in Houston from statcast. Biggest tell for me was Chourio barely changed his trajectory.

It's nowhere near a top 15 "best" Bond, but might be in my top 5 favorites. Good rewatch due to the comedic elements, relatively grounded in terms of gadgets, and JSJ was a great female lead. One of those that you might love if you first saw it as a kid, but likely don't if you were an adult.

I'd be kinda shocked if they turned narvaez loose. He's not even arb eligible and I think they're going to give themselves an off-season to try to fix him.

I just don't understand that roughing call on Carolina when Watson jumped right into the defender. (In a related story, roughing should 100% be legal when Watson is the QB)

I'm still in on Klein, but this is strong evidence that he hasn't fixed anything yet. This is every bit carryover from the last 3 years.

Reports that Klein fixed the toughness issues at K-State were greatly exaggerated. This is a bad opponent taking it to them

I guess that's kinda the thing. Is this really a warning about trauma vs just letting people know what type of movie they are going to see. Subverting expectations are great, but not every film needs to flip genres like The Crying Game - especially for a September dumped Pitt vehicle

"Homeward Bound" and "Milo & Otis" were pretty open in their marketing that you can take your kids and not have them leave the theater as sobbing messes. Not sure this is as new a thing as this post indicates.

I think they will try to resign him and almost certainly give him the QO. It's just really hard to come up with a # that fits his performance + risk + he will be on board with before he knows his market.

There's a lot of timing variance in here, and will get zipped past pretty quickly as new CBA maxes kick in, but this is still pretty wild when considering that Stephen Curry took well under max value for the first part of his prime due to long term concerns about his ankles that never materialized.

I wish the Orioles had Rogers on an extension, but finding that number was probably never realistic given the volatility of his previous 2 seasons and the streakiness within this one.

I think O'Neill still has a good big league season left in him, just not sure if it's next year. So I'm fine with him as a 4th OF/Platoon guy. It did look like he was finding his bat again (which he usually has done!) before he got hurt again (which he usually has done!).

Orioles I am good with coming back next year (batters): Pete Basallo Mayo Gunnar Holliday Cowser Westburg Blaze Not the end of the world if any of TON, CES, Narvaez, **OR** Beavers are in the mix too, although I'm now running out of spots & we have to upgrade in at least 2 areas.

You're not wrong - just a .438 OPS & 9 RBI with the bases loaded this year. ...BUT... Super small sample. Just 16 bases loaded ABs and 8 of those were with 2 out.

I realize the stat has skewed passé, but Pete leading the league in RBI with some genuinely poor OBP guys consistently in front of him makes his season even more incredible.
