We did hold a referendum a number of years ago on implementing STV - single transferable vote - which would also be better than FPTP. Because people are stupid, it predictably failed to pass.

Ranked choice would help in a multi party system like we have in Canada - I wish we had it. In our first past the post system, with more than two viable parties it often happens that a minority plurality wins and a candidate the majority *doesn't* want ends up being our dictator.
