THAWK! @thawk79.bsky.social · 10h…to tell modern stories, they’re blending eras & showing us that time—& music—is a flat circle. Haunting, heartfelt, humorous & in its own way, sinister—that’s the winning recipe here.Jeff Tweedy gave his stamp of approval by supplying equipment, playing guitar & singing backup on several songs.(2/2)thehandsomefamily.bandcamp.comWeightless Again, by The Handsome Familyfrom the album Through the Trees 000

THAWK! @thawk79.bsky.social · 01/10/2026…are serviceable…but that’s it. This has its fans but I find it dull & overlong. I never actively disliked anything, but there was little that I actively liked, either. Halfway thru, I was ready for it to be over so I could move onto the next. THAWK! @thawk79.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Mike “Sport” Murphy: Willoughby (1999) New to me. Something of an outlier in the KRS catalogue, mellow blends of country, folk & lounge tunes by the oddball Murphy, who’s determined to highlight everything but rock on this eclectic album. The melodies are nice, storytelling is good & the songs…(1/2) 100

THAWK! @thawk79.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Did we need to see where Leatherface got his chainsaw or where Hoyt got his uniform? Of course not but the creators of the remake hamstrung themselves w/ what they did to these characters at the end of the film & a direct sequel wasn’t feasible, so instead we get a decent but unremarkable prequel. 000

THAWK! @thawk79.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Is it heresy to remake such a beloved movie? Nah, I’m not that precious. Besides, just think of it as another sequel and it goes down easier. Glossier than the original but still bleak and brutal in the best ways. Weird to say but there’s some beautiful shots here, and Ermey is great. I love this. 120
THAWK! @thawk79.bsky.social · 30/09/2026…For the most part, these may as well be instrumentals because the lyrics are available primarily through vibes—but the rest of the package is solid enough that even that can be forgiven. I imagine there’s some crossover appeal here between rockers, metal heads and goth kids. Very cool stuff. THAWK! @thawk79.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Sonic Jesus: Sonic Jesus EP (2012) Quite good greasy, grungy droning rock from Italy’s Sonic Jesus that never disappoints, at least musically, over the course of 4 tracks. The only real qualm is that the gothy vocals are so mangled and distorted that you can scarcely make any of them out.…(1/2) 110
THAWK! @thawk79.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Certainly not their best work, as the band makes a conscious decision to steer away from the “alternative” label that the press was pinning on them. It’s not easy to go home again, and they struggle a bit to have one foot in the mainstream and the other in the underground. 000
THAWK! @thawk79.bsky.social · 30/09/2026…troubadour singing, but the songwriting is so great that you probably won’t mind. Sometimes humorous, sometimes emotional, but always artful and poetic. It would be equally at home in the coffee shop as it would be at the Lilith Fair. Good stuff. (2/2)daniellehowle.bandcamp.comStill in Love with You, by Danielle Howlefrom the album Catalog 110

THAWK! @thawk79.bsky.social · 29/09/2026…powerful. Despite talking about emotional topics, there’s still a hopefulness that runs counter to the nihilism of a lot of punk.Much of it feels very political on a subtextual level, without actually discussing politics.
