I finished Nioh 3. I think with each of these games I'm like 65% this is good, 35% I hate this. Exploring the levels was exciting, all the boss fights are annoying. 👍🏻

I think Sekiro produced the most satisfying boss fights. They're difficult, but after a few attempts, you begin to see a pattern and the attack/defend/dodge sequences feel like a dance. Nioh games are more: we have to throw everything at the player at all times. Finesse be damned.

I'm about 35 hours into Nioh 3 and every single boss fight has been bullshit. Just a mess of pixels with little clue as to what is even going on. Plus the hit/grab boxes are often broken, you just have to grind away, spam buttons and hope for the best. Rarely works.

Recency bias here, but Nioh 3's Jakotsu-baba boss is one of the most poorly made boss fights I've played against. Like the Devs are genuinely trying to make you quit the game. It's the first 'proper' boss.

It's a quirk of these games that it expects you to remember 1 of maybe 5 split second unique dodge parry, super parry, stance switch parry, roll, super combos to respond with within a 0.05 second window.

I was having fun with Nioh 3, then I got to the first(?) real boss and I remembered the insane difficulty spikes from the previous games. Died like 30 times in a row and I've no idea what the game wants me to do 🫠. Can't block, heal, attack or dodge without the boss pretty much one-shotting me.

I did! They're essentially reverse-engineering *perfect* shots - i.e. adding a random amount of choice and noise to each shot to make it more fallible or human. I may need to fine-tune a bit, but essentially, sometimes the same CPU can be really good or be quite bad. 😀
