Fun Fact: Two of their funders are Cox Enterprises (which own autotrader, and a large investment in Rivian) and the guy who owns Ladybird and Muchacho (illegally built into the beltline rail easement). Along with a whole bunch of other people invested in keeping ATL car centric.

Something people in #ATL should know is that @betteratltransit.bsky.social is full of shit. They are funded by people and organizations that are committed to keeping Atlanta car centric and who are diametrically opposed to any expansion of transit or development of the #Beltline

I'm not sure how I got talked into this, but I am running 4 #Daggerheart sessions at @lugcon.bsky.social 3 of them in my Space Western #Pilgrim campaign frame The stories and the adventures are written, that was the easy part. The real challenge is making a whole mess of pre-gen characters.

That one really depends on the table. The Daggerheart stream that I GM doesn't have a lot of above table talk, at least no more than most streams. And the tactical side of it really depends on the scene, but I have always preferred cinematic combat scenes in D&D, and it works great for that.

Ok... so because #D&D is the game most players play right now it is the best system for actual play. I would counter that #Daggerheart is the better system for telling interesting and exciting stories in actual play, and therefore is the reason so many actual plays are switching to it.

My mental thesaurus is currently failing me. I am looking for a term to replace spellcasting in #Daggerheart to be the usage of ancient, miraculous, and hard to understand technology. Like "Super Science" or "Technology", but verbing instead of nouning

Working on this #Daggerheart quick start seems to be more formatting that writing. If only I took notes in well spaced and neatly columned flows instead of the crazed stream of consciousness I usually write in.

Today I started the process of translating my DM notes from the Momocon play test of Pilgrim, my Space Western re-skin of #daggerheart into a quick start module that I'm likely going to publish on @heartofdaggers.bsky.social when it's done. I'm preparation for getting a crowd funding campaign.

I told one player that every major encounter was a TPK waiting to happen, and they were shocked. "It is because I trust that you all are going to out think me, and come up with a way to succeed that I never considered. But I need to keep it exciting for you."

Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 27/06/2026
Designing #daggerheart combat encounters is an art of creating a deadly scenarios where the odds are against the heroes. Sprinkled with opportunities and obstacles. I do this because I know that the players are going to come up with something from our of left field that I never considered.

Artwork for a #TTRPG is the first step of letting go and letting the seed of your vision germinate in other minds. Because what they create is going to help set the tone for players you will never meet. It is a little scary.

Well @dragoncon.org TTRPG division hasn't gotten back to me regarding running Pilgrim, so I'm likely going to be skipping them and now applying to run at @lugcon.bsky.social instead

After making some edits to my Space Western #daggerheart re-skin, I'm thinking of writing a free one shot (with pre-gens) for people to try out the world and the re-skin. And also so I can get some more feedback as I continue refining it.

I am playing with the idea of running a few more play tests at @dragoncon.org to test out some of my other classes and sub classes; as well as my spaceship environments, and possibly a spaceship conflicts. 3/3

Ran a play test of Pilgrim (my Space Western reskin of #Daggerheart) at @momocon.bsky.social, it went super well. The players (according to the surveys I gave them) had a ball and I got to see some of the tweaks that I made in action (which was super helpful) 1/3

Tonight's #daggerheart one shot is going to be running my Space Western re-skin, it will be my first play test of it and it will be interesting to see how well the system supports the technology aspects of the game.

The "They're the same picture" meme format where the two pictures being compared are: on the left a Nazi officer holing a gun to the head of a man on his knees in the street moments before executing him; on the right a federal agent holding a gun to the head of Alex Pretti (who is on his hands and knees) moments before executing him.

This the lack of gravity or suddenly changing gravity is an opportunity for the GM to spend fear in order to change the nature of the environment and up the drama of the encounter. Of course these would have to be done through theatre of the mind, but that is a small price for a great encounter. 6/6

Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 23/01/2026
Or it could be a combat event like in the "Expanse" with Amos repairing the Rocinante in the middle of a battle (s02e02), or the Starfield side-quest "Sure Bet" where the player has to fight pirates as the gravity flickers. 5/6

But moving down a corridor in Zero-G with lots of debris floating about would be a traversal environment. With challenges like dodging the floating debris and avoiding massive objects with lots of momentum (mechanically similar to a swinging scythe trap). 4/6

Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 23/01/2026
For example exploring an abandoned space ship would likely be built as an exploration environment. With a passive search challenge and activated events like revealing a nest of aggressive "space roaches" or a cascading cloud rapidly moving of debris. 3/6

Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 23/01/2026
For #Daggerheart using an environment stat block in an encounter in Zero-G could be a traversal, an exploration, or an event depending upon what you are trying to use it or for, and each with their own specific challenges. 2/6

More thoughts on the "Space Western" #Daggerheart project I am working on. Today zero-G environments. In media zero G has been expressed in a lot of different ways, which makes it a particularly interesting narrative opportunity in a #TTRPG 1/6

The rewriting and borrowing of domain cards resulted in an entire rethink of all of the domains to be less magic focused and more descriptive of Space Western tropes. I am currently 64% of the way through, and the restructured game is now effectively playable up to level 3 6/6

Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 20/01/2026
In other words the domain cards all depend on the shaman character asking the intelligent technologies in the area to intercede on their behalf. So they are not teleporting themselves from point A to point B, an AI with powerful technology is moving them like a Star Trek transporter. 5/6
100
Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 20/01/2026
For example, the Sage domain card "Vicious Entangle" is great for a fantasy game with druids, but it doesn't work as well for the story line that I have of shamans who commune with intelligent technology. This lead to a refactoring of the domain where each "spell" came from a "third party" 4/6
100
Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 20/01/2026
And some of the domain cards just don't work in the technological framing that I am trying to create. Once I modified one domain and the classes attached to it, it was like knocking over dominos... leading to what I am now calling a restructuring of the base classes and domains. 3/6

Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 20/01/2026
So I am doing more than reskinning, I have taken the classes and domains and using them as guides to create new ones that are more comfortable in the framing of a Science-Fiction setting. It is not spell casting, it is using technology. It is not magic damage, it is energy damage 2/6

Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 20/01/2026
More thoughts on my #daggerheart project. Reskinning vs Restructuring. The book talks about re-skinning the classes and domains to fit into your own campaign; and that works, as long as your campaign is fantasy heavy. But as I started re-skinning for my Space Western, things broke down 1/6

It depends. The adversary that the PC's ship is matching up against can be almost anything. I am describing a narrative structure for making a space battle interesting for all of the players instead of just the person piloting the ship.
101
Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 07/01/2026
And success or defeat doesn't have to mean destruction. A space combat event could lead into a boarding action scene, a social scene as one side attempts to surrender, or one PC performing a death move to sacrifice one life for the good of the many. 4/4
010
Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 07/01/2026
In this all of the players can take part. Using their experiences, ideas, and abilities to achieve the goal of the encounter; while the GM uses the Actions, Reactions, and Fear to narrate the actions of the adversary space ships. 3/4
110
Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 07/01/2026
The space battle is not a combat encounter, it is an event where the heroes must work together to succeed. This can be abstracted as a set of countdowns that represent the distance between the combatants (like a chase), the health of the combatants (d10: 1 heroes disabled, 10 the adversaries) 2/4
110
Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 07/01/2026
more thinking on my #daggerheart project. Making space encounters interesting. One of the common tropes of Space Westerns is the space battle but in RPGs they become boring table top strategy games that do not engage everybody at the table. My solution is to treat them like environments 1/4

As long as it fits narratively there could be a class of characters that carry around sci-fi Leathermans, that are difficult to use but infinitely configurable with sufficient experience. Which in a fantasy setting would be like a magic wand specialist. 5/5

Mike "That Guy" @thatguyinatl.bsky.social · 01/01/2026
So a character can have a sci-fi Leatherman that they only understand how to use one way (Nice pliers). But as they advance they learn how to use it for a multitude of functions that they never understood before (OMG, it can open bottles too?!?) 4/5
