Kimi wa Shuumatasu Hell yeah lets fucking go.

Two pages of a comic where an office worker has an intrusive thought of pushing a guy off the subway, but backs off. Only for a strange pale haired man to come up and encourage the worker to do a murder.

The last panel is just a splatter of blood.

This feels rather applicable to what I've seen this past world cup.

The machinery of spectacle grinds up everything in its path, nothing
lasts very long, and the manager is as disposable as any other product of consumer society. Today the crowd screams, “Never die!” and next Sunday they invite him to kill himself.
The manager believes soccer is a science and the field a laboratory, but the genius of Einstein and the subtlety of Freud is not enough for the owners and the fans. They want a miracle worker like Our Lady of Lourdes, with the stamina of Gandhi.

Nobody did it like Galeano (+his english translator Mark Fried).

A page about Players in football/soccer.

"Panting, he runs up the wing. On one side awaits heaven’s glory; on
the other, ruin’s abyss.
He is the envy of the neighborhood: the professional athlete who
escaped the factory or the office and gets paid to have fun. He won the
lottery. And even if he has to sweat buckets, with no right to failure or
fatigue, he gets into the papers and on TV. His name is on the radio, women
swoon over him, and children yearn to be like him. But he started out
playing for pleasure in the dirt streets of the slums, and now he plays out of
duty in stadiums where he has no choice but to win or to win.
Businessmen buy him, sell him, lend him and he lets it all happen in
return for the promise of more fame and more money. The more successful
he is and the more money he makes, the more of a prisoner he becomes.
Forced to live by military discipline, he suffers the punishing daily round of
training and the bombardments of painkillers and cortisone that hide his
aches and fool his body. And on the eve of big matches, they lock him up in
a concentration camp where he does forced labor, eats tasteless food, gets
drunk on water, and sleeps alone.
In other human trades, decline comes with old age, but a soccer player
can be old at thirty. Muscles tire early: “That guy couldn’t score if the field
were on a slope.”
“Him? Not even if they tied the keeper’s hands.”
Or before thirty if the ball knocks him out, or bad luck tears a muscle, or
a kick breaks a bone and it can’t be fixed. And one rotten day the player
discovers he has bet his life on a single card and his money is gone and so is
his fame. Fame, that fleeting lady, did not even leave him a Dear John letter."

Speaking of Football/soccer, outside of reading the "obligatory sports manga connected to football I've not yet read", I've also been reading "Haru no Regista" ('Haru the Regista' or 'Regista Haru') which is a yuri(?) sports manga. Interesting to compare visual strengths in displaying the sport.

Tsubasa makes a cross to Ryo over a bunch over small children chasing after him while Roberto watches at a distance as a super imposed figure on the left.

A blonde delinquent tries to punch Haru, who then just effortless moves the ball past her, depicting that ball moving through the delinquents legs as one fluid motion.

If anyone asks what my stance on discussing most latin american topics, especially Argentina, I think you should take Dr. Phil's advice and read "Open Veins of Latin America" unless you live in or grew up in a latin american country.

Dr Phil. is politely requesting all gringos, especially yankee and brits, to read "Open Veins of Latin America".

Trucking through Victory. Liking Space arc much more than the earth stuff. Feels like Tomino et. al are much more consciously writing how space is different from earth, and what a culture that has lived 100+ in space is like.

Shakti, Flanders, and other children are floating around in spacesuits.

I'll probably emphasize the last point, as I think the show is much more ambiguous, to its detriment at times, than people want. And any argument of an unambigiously happy end has to explain "what's that school doing above the gangs head".

Asticassia still sits directly above Earth and our heroes.

Bonkers that this movie has more interesting, and stronger politics, than most anglo sci-fi visual media.

Cynthia Graves: You never intended on either one of us discovering an alternative method to agriculture...

Unfair to have kind of alright, ok gundam for 14 episodes only to have a great gundam for this one. But thats the way 50 episode shows go sometimes.

Speaking of. Been watching g-witch season 2 for fan fic reasons™️. Tend to come back to episode 14 as the height of the show, the part where Gundam as a historical narrative and g-witch the theatrical melodrama meet.

Compelling article. While I continue to doubt I'll ever play it, I do think the obvious answer to this contradiction is yes. For me personally its harder to engage in a piece if the work doesn't sell a sensation or why a character feels that way. Its weird to talk about sex without horny for me.

That said, there is an obvious tension between the game's social justice goals and erotic fiction as its chosen medium: can titillation really coincide with a desire to open discussions about sexuality and trauma?
