Fear is definitely a factor, there can be no reasonable doubt about that, but I think that may not be the only thing. There may also be some "instinctive aversion" to it (for lack of a better word).

People will find any excuse not to do what they do not want to do. My mother didn't even like me, and was against vaccination nonetheless, though I should add that vaccinations were definitely less popular in the '60s than they are now.

Highly enjoyable and interesting, even thought-provoking presentation on UPF. As a big fan of TVP I always wonder why it is so underappreciated, and that's not even mentioning Plumpy'Nut, a product so "terrible" that it saves lives and brings children back from the brink.

With a team of nearly 300 divers, we removed: • >500 pounds of lead • hundreds of feet of line • multiple hooks from the mouth of this young nurse shark accumulated in one year under a *single fishing pier*. You don’t hate fishing enough.

It is often claimed that healthful food is unaffordable. I plead guilty to having believed this. However, ↓ this proves it is not true. Last year, 2025, I produced between 2.0 kg and 2.5 kg of vegetables a day in my small bachelor suite through sprouting, for a cost of less than 1 CDN per day.

Enjoyable conversation by @vivalongevity.bsky.social with Dr. John Day. I am my myself less than sporty, and that is putting it mildly, but I would definitely argue that the diet part is as easy as they come. All it takes, is a decision to eat better. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXJ3...

Great conversation. I really like Kevin Hall's correction to not mix up "health" and "overeating" at 9:58. So many people seem to think that they are synonyms, which they are not. While overeating is clearly not healthy, not overeating is far from necessarily healthy.

Grains and beans are extremely versatile and I can't remember ever having encountered a grain or bean dish I didn't like, but as far as I can tell, frumenty remains my favourite and this↓ one, frumenty of hulled barley and moth beans is right there on my list of absolute favourites.

Great presentation on low-carb versus high-carb diets by @mariokratz.bsky.social. My own diet is low-fat, to the point I have to supplement with fats. Not because I think fats are horrible, but simply because I have no culinary use for them, i.e. I don't like them. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrfT...

Well done. I always find it puzzling when people confidently say how much nutrient "a block of tofu" has without specifying the type of tofu they are referring to. I also don't get why so many people are referring to tofu and almost nobody is talking about soybeans or tofu's "sibling" TVP.

In 2025, I lived mainly on sprouts, producing between 1.3 and 2.5 kg a day. I then needed the space because I added a walking pad to my life, but I am currently producing around 150 g day with mere seconds of investment. I harvest them when the sprouts push the top tray up and destabilise it.

If I were to pick a number one favourite, it would be rutabaga. For reasons that are unclear to me, it seems the most satiating of all vegetables for the lowest energy/fibre ratio.

In all, root vegetables have probably been a staple food since long before we were a species. For good reason.

Red beets and rutabaga are my absolute favourite staples, as well as carrots and onions. Rutabaga is out of season now therefore not available without the nasty paraffin coating so I am waiting for next season, but I still have several kilos of red beets in my freezer, as well as carrots and onions.

Burdock root is fantastic. I found a few very big ones last summer in Chinatown. Delectable. Jicama is great as well. Unfortunately, the skin is said to be toxic and they are relatively hard to peel so I almost never buy them. The fact that they are so "fruity" doesn't help either: too delicious!

It is puzzling to me. Here is a video talking about the reasons conservatives are scared of tofu. I no longer eat tofu myself, but I eat its sibling: TVP. I also eat whole soybeans (and nattou). They are arguably even less popular than either tofu or TVP. Soybean phobia is mystifying.

So far, instant coffee is a favourite: it is incredibly easy and fast to use, it produces no waste at home except for the container and it makes precise dosing a cinch→I use it to mask the nasty taste of tap water, no more. The day tap water become palatable, I'll drop it, but it is great for now.

I cut them unpeeled in bite-sized pieces and cook them in the microwave. A few minutes. Ready. Great to eat. Unfortunately, they are a rare treat because they are very high in energy, but that does not make them a bad food, just a food I should not eat much of.

I think it is fascinating. I also think that we should not forget that hunter-gatherers and subsistence farmers do not "go to the gym" and do not "train" or "exercise" but are generally nonetheless very healthy. That must mean that there is more to health than "gyms".

Great presentation. I think it nicely illustrates that chocolate is not food. Rather, it is luxury that we can fully enjoy if we treat it as such. In my case, that means Neuhaus, Côte d'Or Double Lait Noisettes and Nestlé Galak with puffed rice.
