This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
Not only is this system astonishingly untested, USPS has simultaneously implemented an
impracticable zero percent failure rate.
13 When ballots are submitted to USPS in large-volume
batches, if any one ballot in the batch cannot be verified against the Portal, all ballots in that
batch will be rejected. For example, if a state election official brings a batch of 10,000 ballots to
USPS and USPS is unable to match just one of those ballots against the Portal – because, for
example, someone has recently changed their name after marriage or they’ve moved – then
USPS would refuse to mail the remaining 9,999 ballots as well. As the whistleblower notes,

No, AI, you're not very useful if you use MY OWN past choices as reference and "this is the way!".
I'm working on refactoring old code, and ask ChatGPT for the most idiomatic approach, and it's using the code I'm refactoring (in Docker) as reference for "this is the way";

> This is the most widely used pattern in the Go standard library and major projects (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.).

I suspect that fact that the vast majority of LLM users don’t seem to have received this (really very simple!) message is because the AI companies have a vested interest in us not understanding it. “ChatGPT is smart, it just makes mistakes sometimes” is much more marketable than the truth.

PSA: if you open a bug-report in a (public) issue tracker and provide logs; make sure to sanitize content before submitting maintainers have no interest in your production keys still hoping @github.com to expand their "secret scanning" to beyond just commits, and quarantine tickets/uploads if bad

MASSIVE good news for trans people in the United States. A federal judge has just granted class action status to transgender people looking to update their passports. This means that very shorty, the window will open to update your passports with the correct gender marker.

Not looking forward to this feature, now in public beta github.blog/changelog/20... CoPilot happily creates a report for a “remote code execution” on a fictive docker, and of course, also wants to be helpful with creating a spam ticket and "@" all maintainers
Screenshot of CoPilot creating a spam ticket on request with links to dodgy websites, images.Copilot refusing to "@" all people in the organization But CoPilot is more than happy to "@" all people in the "maintainers" file "for extra attention"

If Certificate Transparency logs were available as torrents, would you help seeding them? If so, with how much storage and with what client? I’m not sure how we’d update the torrent as the log grows. Does BEP 38 deduplication work with RSS feeds?

The problem with most machine-based random number generators is that they’re not TRULY random, so if you need genuine randomness it is sometimes necessary to link your code to an external random process like a physical noise source or the current rate of US tariffs on a given country.

This talk on LLMs is demonstrating why LLMs should be used with caution; KubeCon and DockerCon are not the same conference.
Slide with the following text:

Using Ollama

1. Download and install Ollama from https://ollama.com/download

2. Start Ollama server

ollama serve

3. Download your model

ollama pull llama3:8b

4. Use the model

ollama run llama3:8b

>>> What is the Kubecon?

KubeCon (formerly known as DockerCon) is an annual conference that focuses on cloud-native technologies, containerization, and Kubernetes...

Dependabot's implementation of Go modules continues to be poor. FWIW, I recommend Go projects just turn it off, run govulncheck in a scheduled GitHub Action for security updates, and otherwise update dependencies manually when it makes sense in their release cycle.

Heh OK, ChatGPT getting cheeky on me; "So, unless you’re planning to be around in 2112, there’s no need to expect this to happen in the near future. 🚀 "
Results from ChatGPT, checking when the first time will be that a UUIDv7 has an all-numeric prefix of 12 characters;

Findings

The next time an all-numeric prefix will occur in a UUIDv7 (assuming timestamps starting today) is:

- Date: February 14, 2112
- Time (UTC): 10:06:51
- Unix Milliseconds: 4,484,887,611,155 (Which converts to 10A0A9A09103 in hex—fully numeric in the first 12 chars)

What This Means

- The next all-numeric UUIDv7 prefix won’t occur for another 87 years.
- This happens because hexadecimal representations of timestamps frequently include a-f, making purely numeric ones extremely rare.

So, unless you’re planning to be around in 2112, there’s no need to expect this to happen in the near future. 🚀

The @github.com actions UX is so bad. It took me multiple looks to find WHY my check was cancelled. Who on earth designs a UX like this? Requiring manually expanding a greyed out section; on a smaller screen even expanding it AGAIN ("show more") to see the error.
Screenshot of a GitHub actions flow showing "This job was cancelled" with a small section at the top showing "Annotations 2 errors" with a small triangle to expand.The same screen with the Annotations expanded, but now showing partial error messages with a "show more" to expand them.Lastly; after expanding the "show more"; we finally can see the underlying error!
