I am angry tonight. Because tonight ICE shot a New Yorker. They shot a New Yorker while his five year old child was in the car. ICE makes this city less safe. We want them out. Now.

In my eyes, Disney only bought Fox to expand the MCU. In my eyes, Paramount only bought Warner to give CNN an ultimatum. Either go MAGA propaganda like CBS or die.

What I'm trying to say is that as long as the product on the OUTSIDE looks crappy, what's on the INSIDE the licensor may or may not care about what the licensee does depending on the product.

000

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

There are some cases where the licensor doesn’t care of the licensee makes their Blu-ray on par with or better than the Japanese Blu-ray if that means they can bring that master over later. It’s VERY RARE, however, and could probably only happen if they trust their Japanese audience enough.

100

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

In fact, I suppose they can accept the anime presented around 5% crappier than the Japanese Blu-rays as long as they see the Japanese Blu-ray as superior in some way. Just how things work in this industry.

100

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

That actually BARELY ever happens. Japanese higher-ups believe the Japanese don’t accept their discs looking any worse than what the Japanese company provides. Japanese companies do force international licensees to make it inferior, but try not to make it look like crap.

100

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

I know, but everyone is in the business for the profits. Both licensor and licensee. It’s how the market works.

The Boy and the Beast being gone from Crunchyroll was understandable. I believe it's now on HBO Max thanks to GKIDS and Studio Chizu.

000

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

P.P.S. About the "some old ones removed," I'm talking about the stuff Crunchyroll held the streaming(-only) license to for so long, like Heroman, Akame ga Kill!, Kiyo in Kyoto, Mangirl!, lilpri, and even gdgd Faries. Some full lapses like Shomin Sample and even Talentless Nana (UNDERRATED!!!).

300

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

P.S. The reason I pulled up Aniplex is because Mitsudomoe is back on Crunchyroll as well. ;)

100

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Still a damn shame Crunchyroll FORGOT they let the original Eureka Seven lapse...

100

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Now for others that got removed. I seen Discotek's license for The Law of Ueki seemingly lapsed. NIS America's licenses for Pandora Hearts, If Her Flag Breaks, and Kimi ni Todoke get lapsed. Regarding Symphogear, Discotek never got their own streaming license as far as I know...

100

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

I'm certainly going to watch THE IDOLM@STER again after this development! Then again, we may have to look for Aniplex catalog titles to come along, like their other Persona anime, some others removed in 2021, some licensed by others before... Now, what about THE IDOLM@STER MOVIE?

100

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Crunchyroll has been on a license-moving spree recently. Some Aniplex titles like this suddenly came back, some old ones removed, some came through on accident (like Eureka Seven) and there could possibly be more. Any of these titles that just got added, I think you might need to see real soon.

Page listing for THE IDOLM@STER on Crunchyroll.

Discotek's discs are meant for audiences only in the USA and Canada (most of the time). These requests from licensors happen to every licensee outside Asia, including UK's Anime Limited and Australia's Sugoi Co. They would NEVER market their products to Japan. That would contribute to PIRACY there.

010

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

It's usually the Japanese licensor's request to the licensee that their discs are more "compressed" to make it seem like the INFERIOR PRODUCT to the Japanese, and thus, eliminates reverse importing, a type of PIRACY in Japan. MediaOCD basically always knows how to go around that...

310

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

So, THE IDOLM@STER just collabed with McDonald's Japan... and Columbia Music Entertainment Japan is still hesitant to put the rest of their IDOLM@STER catalog onto streaming services...

This isn't me defending the state of content streaming, and physical media FTW, but I feel like what I said about this situation should make sense. If you're in ad-free territory, like I am with Crunchyroll, you shouldn't worry about this too bad.

011

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

And besides, for live events with ads, you WILL get ads no matter what. Literally stupid. Can't they produce some stuff for people on ad-free tiers? WWE have been doing so with international Netflix subscribers.

111

Taylor Glover has gone to Uma hell. @tglover665.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Hmm... I think it's THAT ad before beginning something sometimes on Disney+. A SKIPPABLE ad regarding Disney+'s latest. Annoying, and I wish we can opt out of that. If I recall, some others have been doing so too, like Paramount+ and Crunchyroll, NOT Netflix, HBO Max and Peacock.
