Sat in the Switch Island Odeon cinema in a bad boy reclining seat waiting for #TransformersTheMovie to start. Words can’t express how excited I am, or how jealous 5 year old me would have been.

Thinking about dragging myself into the modern era - what set ups (hardware / software) are people using for art / fanzine creation?

011

TF Desolation @tfdesolation.bsky.social · 25/08/2026

I must have the slowest workflow ever / am I the only person who still inks and colours using a mouse and Manga Studio EX4 and Photoshop CS2?

I’ll also never offer commissions because: A) there are much better artists than me who (unlike me) earn a living from their art. B) I’m REALLY slow at producing anything. C) I only draw things I want to draw. If I have time, & a Transformers fan project interests me, I may contribute to it freely.

TF Desolation @tfdesolation.bsky.social · 17/08/2026

I’m in my early 40s, and have been a fan of Transformers since 1984. My main continuity interests are: The Japanese G1, Beast Wars & RID series. IDW’s MTMTE & LL comics. Furman’s Marvel UK comics. The US G1 cartoon (seasons 1&2). The US Beast Wars (Seasons 1&2).

Been working on this in my lunch hour. Highlight of this is probably the use of the phrase “Northern Lights Suplex” to describe a scene….

021

TF Desolation @tfdesolation.bsky.social · 09/08/2026

I’ve also been typing up and refining the script for issue 4.

010

TF Desolation @tfdesolation.bsky.social · 09/08/2026

The 5th page is taking longer to colour than I wanted as I didn’t like the composition and decided to add an additional panel. So I’ve been redrawing that panel as well as colouring.

TF Desolation @tfdesolation.bsky.social · 04/08/2026

From all of the posts I’m seeing on socials - does the majority of/most popular Transformers fan media / fan created artefacts consumed at #TFNation2026 focus on MTMTE & LOST LIGHT / character shipping? I’m a big MTMTE/LL fan, but I doubt there would be much interest in my stuff as it’s so niche.

Ideas for a third print - some kind of ID badge or business card for the Destron Ninja Consultant…

TF Desolation @tfdesolation.bsky.social · 27/07/2026

Finally come up with a design that I actually like and appears to work for my Masterforce print idea. Just need to do a couple of adjustments to the artwork to make it fit with the other graphical elements.

010

TF Desolation @tfdesolation.bsky.social · 25/07/2026

This second print idea is really not working for me - I can’t get the different elements to gel together at all. 😭

TF Desolation @tfdesolation.bsky.social · 25/07/2026

It would be nice to see new #Transformers toys that don’t scream “pseudo 1980s nostalgia by numbers conceptualised by a corporate AI”.

010

TF Desolation @tfdesolation.bsky.social · 24/07/2026

The Star-TV dub is often mocked, but what many people don’t realise is that there are some examples where it is actually more in keeping with the wider source material (see the #Masterforce Manga for the backstory/context) or offers a more subtle take:

TF Desolation @tfdesolation.bsky.social · 24/07/2026

Outside of the Japanese G1 and cel animated Beast Wars series, anyone who has read Generation Mechs (and recognises me) will know I’m a massive fan of G2. Not in that really annoying “aren’t I ironic, I bloody love neon silliness” way, but a genuine love for the toys & characters like these guys:

Since 1995, Graham’s #Transformers fanzines have been the absolute Gold Standard in terms of production values and content to which all other TF zine creators aspire to. Highly recommend this as an essential purchase.

What size prints would people generally be interested in? A5, A4, A3? If A3 would you be prepared to pay extra for postage in a a tube?

I might be in a minority here but I hated the way Star-Saber & Thunderclash were portrayed in IDW. I always thought that the religious zealot role occupied by Star Saber in IDW would have been better taken by someone like Flame from the Marvel comics or Maelstrom from CG2. Star Saber would have….

One of the things I found really interesting in #GenerationMechs was the distinction between Curative Transformers fans and Creative Transformers fans. The latter really seems to be on the decline sadly.
