Barnaby knocked on the door. No answer. He waited for a few minutes. No worries. He was still getting paid. He opened the door with a loud creak and stepped inside, and he almost missed the large object flying by his head in his attempts to be quiet.
His head spun to see an axe that had to weigh as much as a seven-year-old human child splintering into the tree behind him. Warm poured down his leg and pooled onto the floor. Barnaby shook in place and stared in terror at a short but muscular woman wearing a nightgown. She came up to about his chin.
She laughed. “Ha! That’ll show you to open a woman’s door without knocking!”
“I-I did knock.”
“Oh yeah? I’m just impressed you’re still standing. The last HEC guy fainted, and I had to carry him back.” She held out a hand, and Barnaby shook it, knees still shaking. “So, as you can see, I don’t need Home Elf Care, and you can tell them I don’t care how much he’s paying them, maybe you can send guys to people who actually need them!”
