Wait. What? ANOTHER one? This one is from my other god squaddie aunt--the first one's little sister. I can't....
Yet another card depicting Noah's Ark with Christmas decoration. This time also with a reindeer shooting out of the top deck with stars coming out of its ass.

Among the zillions of things I'm sorting through/getting rid of in prep for our imminent move is a bunch of old cards. Including this doozy from my god squaddie aunt. I just... How does this make any sense at all?
The front of a holiday card featuring a Noah's Ark theme that also--bizarrely--includes Santa and a wreath. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Flood in the Old Testament? No Christmas then, right? And thousands of years before St. Nicholas?

Hilarious.

What the absolute fuck is this? The best I can do at following this logic is that we have to punish Democrats for being less than perfect because otherwise the whole party will be less than perfect, too? And in the meantime, Republicans banning GAC is going to help Trans folks how, exactly ?
Post from a complete dipshit arguing that Republicans are "demonstrably better for trans people than rule by center-left transphobes."

All the cool kids are doing it, so am sheep. Mostly accurate. Born and raised in Reno. Moved to the PNW in 1990. My dad had a TX/OK accent courtesy his fam though he was raised in AZ. Mom sounded upper Midwest courtesy her mom, but was raised in SoCal and then Southern Oregon.

What I'm seeing is that we all have a thing for that cute one with the classic baby-dyke haircut. So many of the guys just screamed "obnoxious cishet douche" that I just didn't pick many of them at all. I went for the ones who were smiling and looked friendly or nerdy, though.

We're just getting started on packing up to move to a new house, after 17 years (and two kids and multiple cats) in this one. This has meant finding odd things we completely forgot we owned. Exhibit A: Evidence of our religious upbringing! These were hidden on a shelf behind a bunch of YA fantasy.
A shelf with a row of religious books, primarily LDS stuff.

Same here. Was on a fairly raging course of it in early 2013 to fix a frozen shoulder. It fixed the shoulder! Aaand I also spent an entire Sunday afternoon making half a dozen different meals to portion out into freezer containers. I imagine this is what m*th does to non-ADHD people.
My prednisone-fueled cooking frenzy. Cherry pie, apple cobbler and turnovers, cheeseburger pie, quiche, savory bread pudding, shepherd's pie and lasagna.

On a writing retreat for the first time in ~5 years. Project for this is working on the sequel to Tesserae, which has been half-written for ages. To that end, I'm building a continuity doc, which of course requires a re-read of Tesserae itself. LOOK WHAT I FOUND. This was pubbed in 2015, FFS.
A screenshot of a passage from my book Tesserae:

Jay frowned and crossed his arms in front of his chest. "Are we going to need more government or military involvement on this? I know the army still has the site locked down for now while we finish the investigation, but I'm surprised they haven't been more involved."
Leung made a sour face. "It's mostly politics, really. The government actually used to have a dedicated alien-invasion protocol, but that got dissolved back in the '20s, along with a bunch of other agencies that were deemed a waste of money. The contingent of anti-Federalists running Congress right now is doing everything they can to kill all remaining national public services and either shove them off to the states or privatize them entirely. As far as they're concerned, Homeland's only purpose is to keep terrorists out—not aliens—and the military exists only to guard our foreign economic interests. Some of them have even been suggesting that this whole thing is a false flag—a way to convince other representatives to vote against their latest privatization bill."

Screenshot of a chart from Gallup showing historical trends for positive views of capitalism and socialism. Unsurprising to anyone who's ever paid attention, 54% of Americans like capitalism and only 39% like socialism. I wrote this in early 2014. The rest of the book isn't about this, mostly, but as I was thinking about what changes might have happened by 2060, this is one of the things I landed on. Oof.
A screenshot of a passage from my novel "Tesserae."

"She doesn't mind about us, though. She's not that backward." Alex huffed helplessly. Accepting her son's interest in men was one of the few concessions to modern culture she had allowed.
"No, I get that. It's everything else. I wouldn't have a problem if she was just plain Catholic. Yeah, they're still twenty years behind everyone else, but they're at least getting there. I think they're even considering a female candidate for a cardinal position now or something. But your mom's thing—this Homecoming cult she's into—is just fucked up. You have to know that." He made a face.
Alex's chest tightened. "I do know it, Gabe. Honestly." Homecoming, his mother's denomination, was a rogue Catholic sect, diverging from the Vatican not long after Pope Francis had taken the office, and dedicated to reversing the increasing secularity in both the church and outside of it. Filling a gap left by increasingly insignificant conservative Protestants, the traditionalist group was starting to gain in political power, even if its membership numbers were still small overall. Every advancement in ecumenical peace and secular egalitarianism, from the

This is the money quote, right here. When I bring up this sort of thing, I always get some pushback, as if I'm policing women's choices. But my point is that none of our choices are made in a vacuum.
Don’t get me wrong, I think they all look wonderful. I can see they feel powerful. I am just always suspicious of anything homogenized for women. I think because it’s harder to decipher if it’s possible to be a choice, when something is a frantically pushed demand. How do we know what is empowering? Is choosing to submit to the power of patriarchy power? Some will argue that it is, because it is a choice. BUT HOW DO WE KNOW IT IS A CHOICE WHEN AUTONOMY IS NOT AN OPTION, AND RIDICULE/INVISIBILITY IS THE PUNISHMENT FOR NOT FALLING IN LINE?!

2016, FTR. And though it's crystal clear that sexism is a factor, it's also fascinating that a bunch of Latino men who voted for Clinton didn't vote for Harris. And it's not necessarily racism, because their numbers were more or less the same for Obama.
