Later tonight into Thursday morning, a line of storms with heavy rain, gusty winds, and localized rapid-onset flooding will move east across those regions and into Texoma, North Texas, the Hill Country, and Edwards Plateau. A brief tornado can't be ruled out.

9/30 6PM: A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until midnight for the Big Country, Concho Valley, and eastern Permian Basin. Individual storms over the next few hours will move east/northeast with large hail and localized damaging wind gusts.

Wednesday afternoon a few severe storms with hail and damaging winds are possible in Northwest Texas and the Big Country, then heavy rain spreads east after dark. By Thursday it sets up from DFW down through the Hill Country and San Antonio. I'm watching the Hill Country closely.

540pm - TORNADO WARNING in the Texas Panhandle in the towns of Jericho and Boydston until 6:15pm. A rotating supercell capable of producing a tornado is located over I-40 just east of Groom, heading northeast. Take shelter now in the warning area.

Rain's coming, y'all. Multiple rounds of it, moving west to east across Texas this week. West Texas and the Panhandle get it first, Tuesday night into Wednesday. Then North Texas, the Big Country and the Hill Country on Wednesday, and right along I-35 on Thursday. Friday's still in play too.

Texas forecast high temperatures for Monday, September 28. Highs range from the mid-80s in the northwest to over 100°F in South Texas. Forecast highs include 86° Amarillo, 91° Lubbock and Dallas, 98° Abilene, 95° Wichita Falls, Midland and Waco, 100° Austin and Del Rio, 96° San Antonio, 93° Houston, 102° Laredo and McAllen, and 98° Brownsville.

I've seen a lot of bright maps flying around today, so let me be clear: a Level 3 is a 40–70% chance that rain exceeds what the soil can absorb near you. It is not a forecast for catastrophe. And rate matters more than total. Five inches over two days is manageable.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday continue to favor that risk spreading into the eastern two-thirds of Texas. By next weekend, nearly all of Texas will likely have rainfall. In fact, we expect several regions will have received at least a few inches. If that falls over a day, great!

Radar at 9:37 PM shows a severe thunderstorm moving across North Texas near Bellevue, Ringgold, Bowie, and Henrietta. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 10:15 PM for radar-indicated 60 mph winds and 1-inch hail. The strongest storms are west and southwest of Bellevue, with frequent lightning indicated.

The Rafter 4B Fire is at least 500 acres, southeast of Eldorado. The fire has produced its own thunderstorm with cloud-to-ground lightning! Fire growth may be erratic due to gusty winds from the nearby storm. Check Schleicher County Emergency Management and the fire department for more information.
