Oh absolutely, I love seeing the same subject tackled by different times/cultures/people. This work by Everett Patterson is one of my favorite depictions of the nativity. It reminds the viewer of the humble origins of Jesus & the painting is framed as if something passing you'd see out a car window.

I don't know enough secondary languages to confirm if this is unique, but native English speakers are fatally addicted to hyperboles - "he's my good friend!" (we met at a networking event & talked for 2 min about business. I know nothing about him) - "I'm doing amazing!" (my status is average)

Upon rewatches an aspect I've appreciated a lot is how well the theme that "nothing is as it seems" is woven into the script. (e.g. J passed all his tests by recognizing something off and thinking outside the box, the diner the aliens meet at literally says "GOOD FOOD" in Russian, etc.)

Reminds me the time I made the connection that the name "Basil" is effectively just "Vasili" and is an excellent case where you can tell when a vernacular shift happened based on when Greek culture was exposed to the Anglo-Saxon and Slavic peoples respectively.

I actually saw a discussion on HistoryMemes on the idea that that patriarchy emerged as a result of the neolithic domestication & the most common response was citing nomadic peoples, as if that was the default rather than a tremendous feat of selective breeding. 3/3 www.reddit.com/r/HistoryMem...

Now I am actually curious what Thomas Hobbes could have known about societies outside of the feudal/absolutist/proto-nationalist structures of his time without the century of archaeology we have. I'm guessing he looked at Roman accounts of the celts/Germanics & pre-Carolingian Europe, 1/3

This will be accounted for. Years before the parks opening anti-feather bros will sign affidavits stating "I could totally kick that tiny feathered raptor's ass" will now be placed into an exhibit with a raptor or other equivalent therapod for a period no less than 30 minutes to appease paleo-snobs.

So, I watched it for the first time & I would say your description is... apt. I basically picked it due to the podcast making me more interested in Venice & Fellini directing it. In retrospect choosing a 70's movie about the life of the notoriously modest/chaste Casanova is making me feel like:

It is really funny to me that a common trope of "Alt history what if America wasn't colonized" usually involves making a massive Iroquois empire for the map post, a culture very much reliant on the Transatlantic world that was built from to become as expansive as it did.
