I’ve thought long and hard about making this post, but really, at this point, I don’t have much to lose. Desperate times, and all that.

TLDR version: I need a kidney transplant, and I’m looking for a donor. Read below for all the gory details.

Since late 2019, right before Covid hit, I’ve been battling a serious illness. I’ve been kind of cagey about what exactly is wrong, for a number of reasons, but here’s the truth—I’m in full kidney failure.

There is no history of this in my family, so when the symptoms began appearing I didn’t recognize them until it was too late. By the time I went to a doctor my kidney function had dropped into the single digits. Most kidney failure is caused by diabetes or high blood pressure—I got some weird kidney disease I can’t even pronounce and never heard of: Oxalate Nephropathy.

By adopting some dietary changes and careful monitoring, I was able to limp along with reduced kidney function for several years. But you don’t appreciate how much your kidneys do to keep you healthy until they stop working. There’s constant fatigue and nausea, and a general feeling of unwellness that never goes away.

But eventually I lost even what minimal function I had left, which left the end of the line for kidney disease: dialysis. As of this point I’ve been on dialysis for about 3 years. Let me tell you—dialysis is its own special kind of hell that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy.

But even that is just a stop-gap measure, and my condition is continuing to get worse. Despite this, I’m trying my best to live as normal a life as possible. I’m extremely lucky I have a job that’s willing to allow me 9 hours a week for dialysis, so I’m still working. On weekends I work on my art and comics, and one or two days a month I do my volunteer work at the bird-banding site. I can even travel to see my family—if I arrange for dialysis at a local clinic ahead of time.

All of that is done while trying to deal with the symptoms of kidney failure. I’ve known 4 people who were on dialysis—none of them worked or really did much of anything, and at this point they’re all dead, which doesn’t really give me a lot of hope for my future.

Which brings us to the point of all this—I desperately need a kidney transplant. That is the only thing that will give me a chance at a relatively normal life. I’ve been approved and on the transplant list for a few years, but the waiting period in California is very long. By the time I get to the top of it, I may be too sick to get one. Right now I’m still in relatively good condition, comparatively. A transplant from a living donor lasts much longer and is better in every way than one you get from a deceased donor.

Unfortunately, everyone in my immediate family is too old or has other health problems that preclude donation. So this post is a desperate attempt to find anyone willing to donate. I realize donating a kidney is a lot different than giving ten bucks to a GoFundMe, but as I said at the beginning, at this point I don’t have much to lose by asking.

In these digital times we intertwine our life with countless of people together, building up good memories; merry, serene, or rejoicing moments together; in a way that can exceeds the limits of our biological memory.

Because, let's be obvious, HTF can you remember everything; between your real life, your digital life, and all of the torments laying in between?

Can you imagine all of a sudden loosing every memory about someone; not remembering anymore that very particular day where you couldn't resonate together any better than this, not even remembering the day where you first met together, nor in which circumstances?

Would you like to experience yourself having everything becoming only but a faint and elusive thing, mixing and fainting away over time?

Loosing forever memories that took a decent amount of your life, lost forever?

Sheesh, forgot to update this! It turned out my engine was leaking oil from the crankcase; had to split it open and remake the gasket. I had to reposition the engine a little, got rid of the stock restrictive air filter and I put some brain into it, looks great so far. Today I'll change the belt.

My daily coffee, a very bitter coffee. I acknowledged only today about the passing of CoyoteOfTheWilds, and...

...Despite I interacted with them only an handful of times, their presence in the fandom was part of those apparently insignificant things, that structures our daily life, and once gone, they leaves an immense gap, way too large to fill.

The biggest tragedy in life is that you will always be liked or loved more than you will ever know.

Someone finds your presence inviting and warm, even if you've only exchanged a few words with them, or even none at all; someone who regularly shares the same environment with you is disappointed when you aren't there to brighten their day with solely your presence.

Someone on the streets loves your smile and it gets them down to the next few neighbourhoods; you think you have always disappeared when you’re no longer in the picture, but in matter of facts, you really never left the frame.

I feel so bad about not having talked with them more.

I'll never hold back anymore with staying in touch with people, because you can never know what day will be the last one to enjoy their presence.

At last it's Gryphon appreciation day! Time to introduce a pair of griffs of mine, still in dev, but otherwise pretty much presentable: Arizona "Ash" Badlands, and Athena Bokaie! ^v^ #GryphonAppreciationDay

Arizona "Ash" Badlands; also affectionately called "Ash", short of Dash.

He's an hawgle / cheetah gryphon, owner of a moderately large service station, where his daily life consists into servicing, fixing and tweaking cars, scooters and motorized bicycles.

His "break" from the daily life is rather unusual; as a survivalism enthusiast, he finds enjoyment and contemplation into disappearing into the wilderness for a few days, or even weeks, to live off whatever
he manages to hunt down on his own, with whatever tool he manages to craft, and whatever shelter he manages to improvise.

He's quite hot headed; enough to chase off wild boars and similarly large wild animals with a makeshift spear, or a kabar knife.

Whenever he's not lazing about on a large tree's branch, in the middle of nowhere; he enjoys gambling in the gambling den hidden behind his shop, as he's a fairly capable poker player.

Do not ask him favours, or even less, don't do bets with him. His stakes often can be quite...Controversial. He's bisexual, unapologetically bisexual.

Athena Bokaie is quite the brilliant gryphoness.

Despite her surname alludes to more Persians origins, she's a gryphon hatched from the ever fascinating Hellenic land; brought into a successful career within the energy's industry by two well earned bachelor degrees in nuclear physics and geology.

She is specifically implemented in the prospecting of Thorium ore deposits, for manufacturing nuclear fuel elements, with which great part of her (and all my characters') society is powered.

Her very hot passion for ancient history walks hand in the hand with light athletics, in particular with javelin throw; instead of a proper javelin, she prefers to use a Dory spear, to make more challenging the activity with which she keeps her rather gigantic stature pristine:

Athena is the tallest among my characters, she's a giant; towering at approximately 2,20 meters, she can very easily use a human being as a table, not that she would, because she's a gentle giant:

Should you come across her, it's very likely you would also come across her legendary Galaktoboureko.
