Does anyone have any pointers to information about why the UK/EU was so plastic-centric for game boxes? The US and Japan opted for card-based boxes on things like the late mega drive and Neo Geo Pocket, while the UK stayed firm with plastic boxes… hard to find reasons why!

Really annoying when I’m looking to buy something on eBay (usually retro game related for me) and there’s no shortage of them, but they’re all sealed and sellers have several. They invariably compromise 30% when I leave it in my watchlist for days. Dumb.

Plus if it was all found footage that’s VERY inaccessible, because the style of Backrooms found footage is established as being very shaky and is not compatible with folks with motion sickness. Fine on a phone or YT window - vomit inducing on a big screen.

The contrast between the two styles is interesting as a viewer - and as it’s been wildly successful I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that audiences as a whole share that view, no?

The film opens with found footage which is really effective at evoking a particular feeling of terror. The film then switches to another style that slowly builds up a different sort of tension. When we go back to found footage we’re put right back into that first terror and think oh shit, here we go
