You can’t copyright a book or film title. That’s why there are (at least) two separate novels called You Say it First and neither are anything to do with Brisbane and Kimberly

Same reason folks like hearing cover songs. Sometimes it's familiar yet new. Sometimes it's a different interpretation of the material entirely. (And sometimes it's just "I'm glad Stan Sakai is getting a piece of Ninja Turtles toy money; hopefully some kid will discover Usagi Yojimbo b/c of this")

Sometimes when I like a song, I try to find other interpretations of it. With Sam Cooke’s “Lost and Lookin’”, everyone tries to add a little to it and that always makes it worse. The less you do, the more what you do matters sometimes youtu.be/SjIJuCZxgTA

Playing Danganrompa. Trying to figure out if there’s a proper answer to what the game's deal but avoid spoilers about said deal. The fact that there are multiple sequels does not give me hope because "Why did Monokuma happen?" is a different question than "Why does Monokuma keep happening?"

I don’t think I’ve ever known anyone as emotionally stable as Andy Williams. He would revel in his friends successes, cry tears of joy at the mere mention of Hana & his dogs and would never shy away from telling he loved you. Meeting him as made me a better person and friend.

The thing about Rube Goldberg’s comics is he’d change the title of the feature to match the theme. So one day it’d be “I never thought of that” and the next day it’d be “Sure, I Know, Everything Is Great” or “But It Doesn't Mean Anything” or "Our Own Weekly Radio Ravings". All from July 1922
A man says, to the man he bought a car from: Say, you didn't sell me a car - you sold me a can of trouble on wheels - as soon as I made my last payment, the engine stopped - everything's wrong but the shadow - the speedometer reads 40 miles an hour while I'm standing still

Half an hour later, to a friend: She's a wonder - gives me 36 miles to the gallon, uses a pint of oil all season, runs on the same tires for 50,000 miles and rides like a baby carriage - I've had 14 cars and this has got 'em all beat!

Bonus panel - What'll we do with grandpa?
Just before companyarrives for dinner when the house is full of the odor of codfish and fried onions, the old boy closes the window just to take a hand in the preparations for the partyA man talking on the telephone:Thanks very much for the invitation to dinner - seven o'clock - sure I'll be there promptly at 7 - O, the McBlooies are coming too? That's fine - I'll be there on time.

He puts on his tie andd says to himself: Gee, it's twenty-one minutes to seven. I'll jump in a taxi and get there on time - it'll cost me $4 but I don't want their dinner to be spoiled.

He arrives at the door and says: Well, I'm here on time.
A maid replies: The folks have just started to dress andnoneof the guests are here yet - won't you step in and wait an hour or so?

He says to a policeman: No matter how late they tell you to come to dinner, it's always later than that, so it doesn't mean anything.

Starbucks Workers United @sbworkersunited.org · 25/08/2026
🚨BREAKING: Our union of over 12,000 baristas are officially calling for a Starbucks boycott. Read this statement penned by Starbucks workers on why a boycott from ALL customers, allies, and organizations is necessary to fight back against corporate greed:
BOYCOTT STARBUCKS is written inside a zig-zaggy speech bubble against crumbled paper. Beside it are the Starbucks Workers United logo and an image of a coffee cup being poured out.We, the 12,000 and growing members of Starbucks Workers United, call on everyone who stands with working people to boycott Starbucks until they finalize a contract with union baristas and stop union-busting.
What we’re fighting for is simple: a minimum $17/hr wage, enough hours to live on, better staffing in our stores, and basic workplace protections. Every year, our living costs rise but our wages don’t keep up – a growing pressure many American workers are feeling as corporate greed accelerates unchecked in our country.
Starbucks is banking on customers' blind loyalty to the integrity and values this company once stood for in order to keep squeezing them for profits. At a time when working-class people across the country are struggling in a challenging economy, it is no longer possible to be both a Starbucks customer and in support of workers; choosing to spend money at Starbucks is choosing a law breaking corporation over the baristas who make your coffee everyday exactly as you ask for it.
Starbucks has violated U.S. labor law more than any other company in modern history–the NLRB and its judges have found that Starbucks committed hundreds of labor violations and there are currently more than 550 unresolved unfair labor practice charges still pending against the company. Instead of finalizing a fair and reasonable union contract, Starbucks has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of care for the workers who fuel the company’s profits by wasting millions of dollars on AI and technology that doesn’t work, launching countless gimmicky drinks designed to distract from real problems, and inventing pointless policies that do nothing but make our jobs harder.
This ongoing, irrational behavior by Starbucks and its refusal to settle a fair union contract with workers leaves us with no other choice than to call for a boycott. We know when working people stand up together, we win.
No Contract? No Coffee.

I was looking at the NWA revival and…I can’t believe The Question Mark was only around for four months. I was sure it was longer. It was the stupidest gimmick I’ve ever seen and it worked better than it had any right to. Then they shut down for COVID and the wrestler died before they restarted

This is true. I remember folks in the theatre cheering when Yoda started spinning around like a whirligig. But once you get past all the hype, all the fights look like two people whose only goal is to clack their swords together as often as possible

Impressive! That’s a lot flippier than I expected from the age of the wrestler and the age of the match. (Also, that’s 59 in 1985 years. Between smoking, road schedules, and fewer medical options that’s got to be like 65 today)

Normalize putting books down - temporarily or permanently - if they’re Not For You or Not For Right Now. Even if they’re good books. There’s times I could use a reminder when I’m reading and it’s hard to find without spoilers But also, just buy the Cliffs Notes. This is literally what they are.

When I read about a scammy cult in a manga, first thing I do is see if it was written before or after the Aum Shinrikyo terror attacks. And it’s always “after”. For like five years the archetype was still mostly-harmless grifters.
