American college culture surrounding fraternities seems fundamentally flawed. I haven’t heard a single positive story. All I ever hear from friends is that those are about peer-pressured parties, alcohol, drugs, and sex; dressed up as learning groups or like-minded intellectuals.

In my case, docker desktop is expensive. Rancher isn’t reliable. Podman doesn’t seem to play nice with our network infrastructure. WSL containers look a more lightweight solution.

1. Does it bridge the networking like a docker run time would or is it more like WSL (localhost isn’t localhost) 2. How are files mounted? Again, like WSL? Or is there any extra cost? 3. Under the covers does it just run the containers inside a hidden WSL distro or is it more optimized?

Her view of Russia and Putin is somewhat naive although after reading her views in the book in more details, less so than I expected. Nonetheless, I do think her approach clearly wasn’t, and isn’t, working. Putin doesn’t do diplomacy.

She has certain values and she’s a rational person (she has a phd in quantum physics/chemistry). For example, during COVID she side with the scientific community with respect to masks, social distancing, and vaccines. Which is the only sane position to take IMHO.

Reading Angela Merkel’s memoirs “Freiheit” (freedom). For sure a worthwhile book to read. I don’t agree with many of her policies (she’s a Christian Democrat, considered center right in Germany) but I still highly respect her.

I don’t like these calls. And I don’t think they are nice or even appropriate. As a secular humanist I’m not going around calling random people and tell them that I don’t believe god exists and that we’d be better off without religious superstition. And if I did, the same people would be livid.

I left Twitter in 2023, when I realized that Elon's changes had made the site useless for me. I had a half million followers, but his new algorithm drove my engagement numbers down to nothing. I wasn't actually reaching anyone. I was just providing cover for Nazis. So I left. You can too. Honest!

I haven’t been blind to the steady enshittification of Elon’s Twitter, but I’ve been telling myself that I still had a big platform — just under a half million followers — and the growing strength of misinformation on the platform meant I had a duty to stay and push back against it.
Except, as I slowly realized, I don’t have a big platform anymore. Engagement on all my posts is down dramatically under the new system, and a post that would’ve racked up a thousand RTs immediately is now lingering for days with a dozen or so.
I think my fellow (former) big accounts there need to realize that we’re experiencing a bit of a phantom limb syndrome. We still have a big number of followers, but they’re not actually seeing what we post and we’re not remotely having the impact that we once did (or at least thought we did).
Again, all we’re doing is giving our personal seal of approval and a sense of legitimacy to a place that’s rapidly becoming an alt-right hangout of grifters and grievance artists.
