My testknit magiclands wrap by @ambahobrien.bsky.social using my Nebula kit is getting too big to photograph well. The light pooling and streaking across the dust clouds of the nebula makes my 💛 sing. The tiny pops of pink & blue speckles amidst the other speckles are everything I had hoped for 🧶
Knitting and yarn laying against a white background

14 minis are lined up above the knitting. They are arranged in the order they will be added to the knitting. They are light caramel to pinks and light blue with speckles.

The knitted fabric below shifts from almost black brown and gradually lightens as each new colour was added. There is a stepped border of a warm dark caramel colour that runs along the right hand side.Photograph of the same layout as the previous photo but zoomed in. The fabric is now the main subject with the minis still visible at the top of the image The knitting laid out flat so the fabric and colour changes are easier to seeA zoomed in image of the knitting. The little light sections and their speckles are easier to see

Nebula kit being knit up in @ambahobrien.bsky.social magiclandswrap design 🧶 I seriously couldnt be more thrilled with how this is knitting up. Im loving the little pools of light scattered and bunched up in the dark section. Love the stepped band of the main colour along the right side 😍#knitsky
Knitting and yarn laying on a white background

The mini skeins are being added in numerical order (1 to 24) with the larger ball of yarn used continuously on the right side.

The minis start at a dark brown and progress through to light caramels, then pinks and light blue. They are all heavily speckled and have a light section which has caused pooling in the knitting Same layout as the previous photo but zoomed in more to see speckles Zoomed in closer showing the join where minis and the main colour combineExtra zoomed in to see the garter fabric and speckles

I made a start on my brioche border of my mkal shawl Im planning on doing the 3 brioche sections but im also itching to cast on a special testknit as well so i might set this aside for a little bit 🤔 Pattern by westknits 1 kit of this is still available at my etsy #knitsky 🧶
A scrunched up shawl in a white background

The shawl is quite large and visually complex. So its difficult to describe

The colours are dark bright blue, pink, purple and a yellowish preachy colour

The left side of the photo shows 2 balls of yarn (blue and pink) with the diamond and “woven” section of slip stitches. Above the slipped stitch section is a border of brioche knitting with the blue on the front side and the pink on the reverse.

Zoomed in photo of the same layout and orientation of the shawl.Close up of the brioche section and the woven slipped stitches

Clue 3 is done! I have yarn in the oven, tomorrow I will be working at the garden centre so today is for knitting 😍 Pattern by Westknits I have one of this kit thats dyeing now on singles (Electric Blue, Purple Blush, Pink Dream, and Peach Burst on mohair and singles) in the shop.
Knitting laying against a white background.

There is a LOT going on (Stephen West’s mystery knits are always very visually complex)

The colours are a dark bright blue, a lilacish purple, a warm pink and a peachy orange with splashes of neon yellows.

On the left there is a slip stitch section that looks like a woven pattern, below that is a diamond pattern in repeating rows of colour. Scrunched up at the bottom right is a section of repeating “fan” shapes and above that is a ripples squiggle section that has thinner stripes at the middle of the shawl which become larger at the right edgeSame arrangement of the shawl as the previous section but the focus is on the diamonds and slipped stitches. The other sections are still visible at the rightCloser view of the slipped stitches and diamonds

Hem completed! Time to pick up stitches for the button band I love the colour pop inspired by the bright colours of the snow gums bark. Pattern by @ambahobrien.bsky.social Jolly Cardy still currently in testing 🧶: Winter Whisper kit with mohair options held double (link in bio) #knitsky
Knitting and yarn against a white background

The body of the cardigan is displayed with its back and sleeves visible. The left sleeve cuff is a dark blue and this colour progresses along the sleeve to dark greens then across the body it shifts to lighter greens, greys, creams and soft caramel tones before the right sleeve where the brown tones deepen to a dark brown cuff.

The hem is a bright golden mustard colour (i find it hard to describe!) the matching balls of yarn are at the bottom right of the photo. They will be used for the button bandThe same phto but zoomed into the lower right section of the cardigan.

The twisted rib detail of the hem is clearly seen

The body and sleeves of the cardigan are knit in a shifting colour progression of dark blues, greens, greys, creams and browns.

Finished the left sleeve of my Jolly Cardy testknit for @ambahobrien.bsky.social Time to start on the hem! Going to organise the 🧶 that arrived today & post some more packages. So popping this aside for a bit Yarn: Winter Whisper kit (on singles) held with the mohair options #knitsky
Knitting and yarn laying against a white background

The body and sleeves of the cardigan have been knit and are off the needles. From left to right the colours flow from dark blue to greens to greys to creams and finally dark brown

There is a skein of yellowish green yarn underneath the knitting to show it will be added next as the hem and collar. I will hold the same colour of mohair with it so it creates the same fabric as the cuffs.Same photo arrangement as the previous photo but zoomed in and rotated slightly so the main focus is on the newly finished dark blue cuff and some of the body. The top of the skein of yarn also pops up at the bottom of this photograth

Progress on my testknit for @ambahobrien.bsky.social with the Jolly Cardy knit using my Winter Whisper kit with mohair held double. Im using the final minis of dark blueish tones 💙💙💙 Yarn available at my etsy (link in bio) Pattern to be released later (keep an eye on Ambahs account) #knitsky 🧶
Knitting and yarn on a white background

On the left there are 3 dark blue mini skeins and a small ball of yarn with a larger ball of mohair attached to the knitting.

The cardigan has part of the left sleeve knitted with the colours progressing to dark greens, then fading across the body to soft greys and caramels before darkening into browns for the right sleeve. The right sleeve is a bit scrunched around so it would fit into the photograph.

Under the knitting is the yarn im going to use to knit the waistband and buttonband. (Matching mohair is currently drying on the lineA zoomed in photo of the knitting and yarn of the previous set up. Most of the right side has been cut off

Just a little bit of progress to show today Jolly Cardy being test knit for @ambahobrien.bsky.social using my Winter Whisper kit on Singles with mohair held double. Im using 5 colours of mohair for the body and Im dyeing up the same contrast colour on mohair for the button & waistband 🧶 #knitsky
Knitting and yarn laying against a white background

On the left there is a ball of mohair and a small ball of a greenish blue yarn attached to the knitting.

There are 4 dark blue minis underneath them which subtly shift from a lighter shade of dark blueish green to a deep dark blue.

In the middle of the photo there is the cardigan being knit. The left sleeve is currently being knit while the body and right sleeve have been created. Its a little scrunched up as its too big to fit into the photo. The colours shift from left to right from dark greens, to greys to soft caramels and finally browns.

Underneath the cardigan is a bright greenish yellow skein which will be used for the waistband and buttonbandThe same image as before except the photograph has zoomed into the knitted fabric

I forgot to take photos yesterday and I made a lot of progress 😂😍 Testing the Jolly Cardy for @ambahobrien.bsky.social using my Winter Whisper kit with the 5 mohair options, thinking of dyeing a 6th & using the bright 100g skein for the waistband & collar held with the same colour mohair 🧶#knitsky
Cardigan in the process of being knit with the yarn arranged next to it against a white background

The cardigan is getting a bit too big to photograph easily so the right sleeve is folded back against the body.

On the left the mini skeins that are still to be added are arranged in colour order to show how the progression will continue

The colours from cuff of the left sleeve to the cuff of the right sleeve go from dark blue, greens, greys, caramels to dark brown Zoomed in photo of the previous photograph showing the knitted fabric and the colour progression.

A little of the sleeve is seen as are the very top ends of the minisA photo of the minis skeins arranged in a circle (like spokes in a wheel) with the bright contrasting greenish gold skein sitting in the middle.

This is the colour Im thinking of using for the collar and waistband

I havent been able to put it down 😍 So making progress on the sleeve and thinking about what colour to use for the collar, button band and waist. I could use the bright golden greenish colour or the more subtle blended skein I think im going to knit the rest before deciding 🧶 #knitsky
Cardigan in the process of being knit against a white background

There are 10 miniskeins to the left coloured from dark blue to light greyish green. These sit next to the side they will be knit into. The knitting sitting in the middle of the image show a shift from greys to caramel creams then to browns being knit at the sleeve. There is a ball of mohair and a small ball of singles attached as they are being knit. Next to the sleeve are 3 miniskeins which are to be added in order from the brown to dark brown.Same image as before but zoomed in so the fabric is the main focus.Photo of the full kit that is being knit.

However this image shows the thicker Suri Silk option (im knitting with the thinner kidsilk) in all 5 colours (brown, caramel, grey, green, blue)

The minis below follow the same colour sequence

Below is a full skein with the blended speckles of all the colours used in the minis. The other option is the bright greenish gold (not pictured) but im not choosing until ive knit more

Start of my shawl

This is a photo of day 1’s knitting

There are 11 small balls of yarn and a bit of knitting laying on a white backround

The shawl begins with bright neon yellows becoming more golden and a few peachy rows. The current peachy colour being knit is the ball at the top right of the knitting.

The rest of the balls are arranged from right to left in the order they will be joined.

The knitting is on a cable with interchangeable wooden needles, there is also a neon pink heart stitch marker at the beginning of the right side row so i remember to do my increases that side and decreases on the other side Start of my shawl

This is a photo of day 2’s knitting

There are 8 small balls of yarn and a bit more knitting laying on a white backround

The shawl begins with bright neon yellows becoming more golden then a peachy oranges and soft reddish orange rows. The soft reddisg peachy being knit is the ball at the top right of the knitting.

The rest of the balls are arranged from right to left in the order they will be joined.

Yarn prepping for 2 customers + @ Cosy Cottage Yarn. Im the featured dyer for September so I have a bunch of new colours drying on the line + some mohair to dye tomorrow to go with the new colours 🧶 If you’re in Perth next month you should make a note on your calendar, save a date & pop in #knitsky
A pile of yarn being prepped for dyeing.

The undyed yarn is in a big pink plastic tub. There is a reusable cable tie attached to each 100g skein of yarn.

There are little strands of coloured string also visible near the ties. These are attached by the mill and help dyers know what each base is. The blue here is around the MCN fingering weight yarn and the yellow is around the Platinum DK yarn.

This yarn will soak overnight in water before being dyed

I played with some Nebula kit skeins and im now watching (hovering really) while there is a bit of sunshine after some heavy downpours. The light blue is an extra fluff colour to go with the kit and the lighter 100g skeins are an alternative to the darker 25: Expanse option #knitsky #crochetsky 🧶

Its a bright mix of pinks, blues, yellows, reds and dark against a generally caramel toned background, there is a lighter section as with all skeins in this series with softer tones and washes of pink and blue The lone rack standing proudly in the moment of sun (i have since had to bring it in with a light shower starting)

The sky is a bright blue with puffy white and grey clouds that were swiftly moving.

Some Nebula kit add on skeins: mohair fluff (4 colours) & 100g skein out on the line. Im really pleased with the little pops on these 😍 Today is predicted to be a little bit cloudy but no rain so Im making use of the fresh air and sunshine to finish drying these skeins #knitsky #crochetsky 🧶
Yarn drying on a clothesline with a cream brick wall behind them.

Left to right the colours go from a pink to pinkish caramel to caramel to a dark brown on mohair skeins. Then there are the 100g skeins which are longer and not fluffy. These longer skeins are a mix of caramels, browns, pinks and blue with an area at their top that had less dye applied to give it a glowing effect. A different angle and closer shot of the yarn on the line. There is a patch of out of focus sky at the top left of the image. Perth has some sun today to yarn is out drying while I pack kits and keep a close eye on the clouds. I dont entirely trust winter sun to stay sunny😂 Im thinking of these colours as the middle of my Nebula kit but we will see what the magic of dyeing process produces as well 🧶 #knitsky #crochetsky
Yarn drying on the clothesline at the back of a house

There is a bright blue patch of winter sky at the top right of the photo

The yarn starts light caramel shades on the left and darkens as it goes to the right

There are bright and dark speckles on every skein with areas left lighter in a deliberate attempt to bring the starlight to the collectionAnother angle of the same yarn on the line

The sky visible is at the top left with a little bit of clouds showing

The background is a cream brick wallThe same yarn again but the focus is on the lightest skeins. There are dark and bright speckles clearly shown, the rest is out of focus but still gives the sense of the colours changing Reverse view of the previous photo. The focus is mainly on the darker skeins

Developing colours for the Nebula: Vera C. Rubin kits. These colours are inspired by the image of the Triffid and Lagoon Nebulas I think i have the dark + golden glowing vibe down 😍 Cant wait to see how they dry #knitsky #crochetsky 🧶 Link to listing ⬇️ loveandspeckles.etsy.com/listing/4325...

I had a ooopsie dyeing some Platinum Dk and Singles. They should look like the labelled skein a more uniform peachy orange, instead i messed up and have made a more variegated skein with pinks and yellows. They are super pretty but I’m listing them as Rose Garden 25*LIMITED 🧶 #knitsky #crochetsky
3 skeins of yarn against a white background.

1 is opened and it shows the variation in the colours with areas that are more pink and yellow than the original version. This is Rose Garden 25*

1 is twisted and unlabelled. This is also the Rose Garden 25*

1 is twisted and labelled, this is the original version Rose Garden 25 the peachy orange is variegated but less dramatic

Just twisted and labelled the last 8 colours of the Winter Whisper kit, so 16 are now done. Just got to do the next 8 tomorrow 😍 the bonus skeins are cooking in the oven 😍 Minis 9-24 on Suri Silk Fluff. Its a bit later in the day so the colours arent quite right in the afternoon light🧶 #knitsky
Fluffy minis against a white background.

Colours start (left) soft cream colours and shift to greys then greens and finally bluesA bundle of yarn hanging on a white rack. My hand is pulling the yarn closer to the camera.

The fluffy yarn has bright yellow splashes if colour on the fluffy halo. The same colours and speckles have been used on the non fluffy skeins in the same bundle but the way the colours strike on the merino creates a dark green instead.

All part of the magic of dyeing yarn 💚

Im so inspired the Triffid and Lagoon nebulas photo by @vrubinobs.bsky.social Im not yet sure if this will be a fade but it will be 24 minis with these colours and have speckles: bright pinks, peachy tones, bright light blues, dusky golden browns and darker moments
Photo of the Triffid and Lagoon nebulas from the Vera C. Rubin observatory

I love the bright golden tones with the pink and coral bright swirls and the bright light blue spots. The smaller dark sections make the bright colours stand out more.

Just relisted the Autumn Storm kit I have some Suri Silk Fluff minis that i could dye with these colours so let me know if you want them I also have an idea for another festive kit as well (inspiration has hit) going to post that idea tomorrow🧶 #knitsky loveandspeckles.etsy.com/listing/1761...
24 miniskeins, 4 mohair skeins and 1 100g skein arranged against a white background.

The minis are all autumn inspired colours: green, gold, purples, reds, orange and brown The same minis and larger skeins but areanged lengthways in 3 rows across a white background

The 4 mohair colours match/coordinate with the 6 minis below them.

The opened skein at the bottom is the optional 100g skein colour with speckles that relate to the minis

The minis left to right: green, gold, grey, mauve, reddish purples, red, orange and, brownThe same arrangement as the previous photo (24 minis & 4 mohair) without the opened skeinThe same arrangement of rows of yarn but this time just the minis and the opened skein below (mohair has been removed)

Just twisted and labelled the first colours of my Winter Whisper: Australian Snowy Mountains redye and heres 8 of Suri Silk Fluff minis to admire 😍 Will hopefully dye the rest this week I have a couple of each type of non fluff kits available loveandspeckles.etsy.com/listing/1892... #knitsky 🧶
8 fluffy skeins of yarn against a white background

Left to right the colours shift from a soft cream to greys and finally soft greyish greens.

There are speckles on every skein but this baby alpaca fluff makes the colours “smudge” rather than be distinct spots of colour. Its going to be very subtle when knit or crocheted

My #neonsunshineshawl is done! Its SO cold and wet these last few days I’m going to hold off blocking till its going to be sunny next week. Now its time to consider what i will make for the KAL! Yarn: Spring Sunrise kit + Azure Pattern by @ambahobrien.bsky.social #knitsky 🧶
Completed shawl arranged in a scrunched up arc on a white background.

Colours are a little wrong because its overcast and raining but best i could do.

Mainly turquoise aqua knitted fabric with 3 stylised sun motifs. Left to right 1st sun is mainly yellows, 2nd sun is mainly peachy tones, 3rd sun is mainly pinks

Each sun has thin stripes of the turquoise colour running through them

A peek at yesterdays stall. I ended up having to shift the two tables over a little to fit in another stall (amazing organic mohair so that was super interesting seeing it in its natural form!) It was so lovely meeting people but Im absolutely exhausting (thats me done for the year! 😂)🧶 #knitsky
Photograph of a yarn stall.

There is a tub of yarn arranged in a colour gradient (brown to cream to grey to green to blue) a folded gold and pink shawl in front and groups of yarn spread over 2 white tables

There is a pinboard at the rear with 2 shawls pinned up in the backgroundA closer look at the second table i can only decribe it as a riot of colour. Pinks, tellows, greens, blues, peachy oranges… its all there

The Rose Garden: Arrangements kit in full 😍 I settled on a 100g colour that is a slightly more saturated version of what skein 22.5 would be (sitting in between the golds of skein 22 and the peachy pink of skein 23) I’ve dyeing the dark mohair colour on 100g skeins now. #knitsky 🧶
The full set of mohair minis and 100g skein laid out on a white background

The 4 colours of mohair are echoing the colours of the minis below: first is a dusky magenta, second is a dusky pink, third is a light yellow, fourth is a golden yellow. They all have speckles of yellow and peach

The row of minis starts with a magenta shifts to dusky magenta, to dusky pinks, to creamy yellow, to golden yellow and back to a light peachy magenta. All have various speckles on them based on their colours & some green

The opened skein below the minis is a peachy orange with speckles of pink, yellow and greenSimilar to the previous photo but without the mohair

It is just the minis and the opened skein belowSimilar to the first photo but without the opened skein, it is just mohair and minisThe minis are now areanged in a circle with the opened skein now bundled up in the middle

I dyed the mohair to go with the arrangement the of yarn in the first photo and really love the arrangement of minis in the second photo. My idea is to have the mohair playing with the colours underneath. Start wherever you want, mix and match the mohair wherever you want.
2 rows of yarn against a white background

Top row is 4 piles of mohair colours. Left to right a dusky magenta with yellow and magenta speckles, a dusky rose pink with yellow and dusky speckles, a light yellow with yellow and peachy speckles, a golden yellow with yellow and peachy speckles

The second row is 24 minis that move from bright magenta pinks to dusky pinks to light pinks to creamy to yellows to golds to peachy pinks and a magenta. All have speckles of various colours2 rows of yarn against a white background

Ok so now I have this dilemma! How do I order the Rose Garden: Arrangements minis? Im thinking of dyeing the mohair addons so they shift some yellows on the pink minis and some pink on the yellows, just giving it a bit more depth of colour 🤔 #knitsky 🧶 loveandspeckles.etsy.com/listing/4310...
Playing with the order of the 24 minis this time having the yellows at the start and end with the pinks all in the middleRearrangement of the same minis, starting with the lightest cream and ending with the lightest pink

Twisted up minis so I can make some decisions about what mohair colours to create. These are the minis for the Rose Garden: Arrangements kits. I haven’t decided which skein is going to be the start but as you can see in the last photo you could decide to start anywhere in this set #knitsky 🧶
A row of 24 mini skeins arranged in colour order against a white background

Left to right: reddish dusky pinks to soft pink to light yellow to golden to peach to hot pink to reddish pinkSame 24 minis arranged in a line against a white bacground but shifted the last 2 minis on the right into position as the first 2 on the left

So now it starts with a bright pinkish red, then reddish pink dusky to light pink to creamy yellows to golds to peachy to hot pinkThe same 24 minis but now arranged in a rough circle shape with the minis touching at the “top” of the skein with its neighbour. There is an empty white space at the middle

A bunch of rose colours drying in the sun on a rack 🌞 Its been raining lots here so I’ve taken the moments of sun and put the rack outside while sitting right next to the sliding door in case it rains a little 😂 Link to the listing: loveandspeckles.etsy.com/listing/4310... #knitsky 🧶

Well Im a bit behind today so heres the photos of the last 8 roses colours I’ve dyed. As always they look more intense at this wet stage so got them inside drying with a fan on them (its cold and wet which is perfect weather this time of year) #knitsky
A silver metal trolly stacked with trays of wet yarn

The bottom tray is golden coloured and each tray above the next is progressively pinker and the final colour is a pinkish red.

The background is mainly white floor tiles, at the left there is a purple ball that dispenses cat food and a pink catnip mouse on a black foam mat piece.

First 16 colours of The Rose Garden: Arrangements Im thinking about the peachy gold tones & reds next with them possibly meeting up in the middle. I will have the last 8 minis dyed this week so wait times on these will be much shorter than listed 🧶 link in bio to etsy #knitsky
16 minis skeins lined up in a row against a white background.

From left to right: deep dusky reddish fading to a soft dusky pink, then a very pale cream becoming a warm golden yellow.

There are speckles scattered across the skeins8 minis skeins lined up in a row against a white background. This is a closer image of the yellow skeins

From left to right: a very pale cream becoming a warm golden yellow8 minis skeins lines up in a row against a white background. This is the pinkish section

From left to right: deep dusky reddish fading to a soft dusky pinkA playful arrangement of the minis.

I was trying to visualise how I wanted the colours to circle back around to each other.

This is an opened circle of colour with a space left for the 8 new colours.

The top left of the photo shows the golden yellow and going clockwise this fades to a cream, then light dusky pinks developing into reddish dusky pink at the bottom left

At the top right between the 6th and 7th skeins there is a bit of a white paper tag barely visible against the white background. I label each mini skein with a number corresponding to the order i dyed them in so i can keep track of my skeins and recipes in between rearranging them

#neonsunshineshawl has its final sun completed 🌞 I still have some rows of Azure to complete before casting off Pattern by @ambahobrien.bsky.social will go live 20th June just before the KAL starts Yarn: Spring Sunrise + two 100g skeins (i chose Azure)🧶 #knitsky
Almost completed shawl and a ball of yarn against a white background

The main colour is a turquoise blue.

There are 3 round “sun” shapes but only one is clear, the other two are mainly scrunched up so the entire shawl will fit into the photo.

The sun on the lower left of the photo is mainly yellows, with a touch of orange. The sun on the too left is mainly peachy shades with a touch of orange. The sun on the right is mainly pinks with a touch of peach.

Each sun is knit in thick segments of colour bands with single rows of turquoise garter ridges running through them. The same shawl but the pink sun is now fully displayed and the photo is zoomed in a little more.

Its now easy to see the light scattered speckles within the bands of colours in the sunA very zoomed in photo of the pink sun

The turquoise rows of garter ridges and bands of sun colours now run almost horizontally across the photo

My #neonsunshineshawl is so pretty 🌞 Its going to be cool and wet all week which is delightful for the environment & wearing snuggly knitwear, so getting this one knit as fast as i can 😍 🧶 @ambahobrien.bsky.social will have this pattern go live before her Solstice KAL #knitsky
Shawl knitting progress photo

The shawl and yarn lay on a white background

The main colour is a turquoise blue

The left side if the shawl is scrunched up so it can fit in the photo. There are yellow, orange and peach stripes in that section.

The right side if the shawl is still being knit the colours in this sun shape are mainly pinks that are getting lighter.

There are 2 larger balls of turquoise yarn and one small pink ball, a solitary soft pink mini sits above the balls of yarn, it will be the final colour of the sunA zoomed in photo of the shawl.

The left side has been straightened out so the peach coloured sun is visible, but the yellow is out of the shot.

The speckles and variations in colour are clearer at this distance A very zoomed in photo and taken at another angle.

Almost the entire photo is of the pink sun in squishy garter rows. There are single garter ridges of turquoise running through the larger bands of pink which make up the sun

The mini and balls of yarn at the top of the image are out of focus
