Caves are absolutely beautiful, endlessly fascinating. So many stories can be told about one, mysteries that are never answered, staples of fantasy and horror. I watch every caving video I can, I imagine exploring one myself fairly often. I'm claustrophobic bro I couldn't do this myself irl.

Saying this as someone who DOES usually extend benefit of the doubt, even when i really shouldn't. I'm not really fond of getting upset at people, especially those I've looked up to. I like feeling hopeful. I lose a little more hope when large creatives disregard their own peers' concerns.

In this case, I do not need to know him personally because I know enough. I have seen enough, experienced enough, and can revisit this in a few years if his apology is genuine. His decision (and remarks) were still harmful. That's a pattern I can recognize. The fact was right there for us already

He needs to prove it going forward by not touching it and speaking out against it, for one thing. An apology doesn't fix trust. Working towards what you said in your apology is the correct step. Only then would I actually consider it. But, again. The trust broken here is not a small break.

Why do we need to accept it? Why is this the hangup? I'm glad he stopped the bad thing! (Still didn't apologize for the misogyny). I'm glad he stepped back! That's not enough to earn forgiveness. That's bare minimum, but still broke a lot of trust in people. That's not ours to fix.
