We agree. We tend to skip AI attributed stuff too. The sound design came first. When we heard it, though, we knew we had to go over the top with it. We'll be posting the radio friendly version soon. That one actually aired & Marc used his NPR voice.

Thanks to those who emailed with their definitions of what happiness is. Keep ‘em coming. It’s a tricky question, “are you happy?”, isn’t it? Just as tricky is nailing down what exactly happiness is. The answer can be so subjective, and that’s what makes getting to the answer so tough!

In short: fulfillment. Do my actions have value and a positive impact on those around me, on my community? How often am I lost in a flow state as I am going about my daily activities?

But we must add ‘in a complete life.’ For one swallow does not make a summer, nor does one day; and so too one day, or a short time, does not make a man blessed and happy.” (Translated by W. D. Ross)

If this is so, human good turns out to be activity of soul in accordance with virtue, and if there are more than one virtue, in accordance with the best and most complete.

Rather than viewing happiness as a fleeting emotion, Aristotle arrives at its definition using his Function Argument (Ergon): he argues that just as an eye, hand, or sculptor has a specific function, a human being must also have a unique function.

Further digging reveals that this concept is originally attributed to Aristotle. Aristotle outlines his original definition of eudaimonia (often translated as “happiness” or “human flourishing”) in Book I, Chapter 7 of the Nicomachean Ethics.

This month’s upcoming Tell Us Something event has me thinking quite a bit about happiness. In last month’s newsletter, I linked to an article from Psychology Today about happiness. Right now, I’m specifically interested in Eudemonic Happiness, which was discussed in the article.
This image features a retro-styled graphic flowchart with a textured, worn teal background and off-white circular text nodes connected by dark brown arrows.
Flowchart Logic
Starting Node: The large central circle at the top asks: "ARE YOU HAPPY?"
If YES: An arrow points left to a circle reading "YES", which leads straight down to a large node at the bottom left: "KEEP DOING WHATEVER YOU'RE DOING."
If NO: An arrow points right to a circle reading "NO", which leads down to the question: "DO YOU WANT TO BE HAPPY?"
If YES: Following the arrow from "YES" leads to a central node: "CHANGE SOMETHING."
If NO: Following the arrow from "NO" points horizontally all the way back across to the node: "KEEP DOING WHATEVER YOU'RE DOING."
Visual Style
The poster has a vintage, mid-century aesthetic with a faux-creased paper texture, sans-serif typography, and subtle credit text printed in the top right corner (T/C-2) and along the bottom margin.
