Returned to a BAVS conference after a decade, and a day after the RSVP! This proximity, apart from being really helpful to international delegates, made the exciting overlaps in conversations in these two interconnected fields very clear. A huge thank you to everyone who put this together. #BAVS2026

Midway through my visit to the University of Bristol for 'Encountering Nature in the 19th Century', a collaborative project with Dr. Tara Puri. Grateful for the Univ. of Bristol's RDIC Award, which enabled this visit and has generated some very exciting conversations on the topic.

Spring 2026 got off to a fabulous start with Mandakini Dubey's talk on Esoteric Orientalisms (CUP, 2025), which examines Victorian esotericism and academic Orientalism as the nineteenth century’s most significant comparative frameworks for understanding global religions, languages, and cultures.

Digital spaces are saturated with metaphor: we have pages, sites, mice, and windows. Yet, in the world of digital textuality, these metaphors no longer function as we might expect.
