Yes, you got it! They've been domesticated for thousands of years, and over time became flightless (body too big, wings too small). They're completely dependent upon humans to reproduce.

Yeah, so it really comes down to scale (at a cost!) & stability of the magic it seems like. I think this can translate to a lot of real-world problems too; how easy it is to scale a scientific/engineering solution, and how reproducible a "finding" is... Guess I'll always be a scientist at heart.

Alright, so did you end up making a costume, or more plans for one at least? And yeah, I don't really drink alcohol either. What we do each year is have a big pumpkin carving party with friends. Lots dress up. It's a lot of fun. Been doing for decades now. Thanks for sharing!

I smash hate with hope. I focus on resonance for the pain in grounding. And you, Jim, know they're all author inserts. That's the real trick. Alexandra Rowland (no relation, that I'm aware of!), who coined #hopepunk, is coming out with another book & that gives me hope for the future of fict!

I heard a while ago that a lot of travel writers don't actually travel to the places they write about. They just read a lot, look up videos, restaurants, etc, & do all that research online. So, a similar approach to writing fiction about it. Though I'd love to travel to Italy for my current book 😂

One of my fav authors is Ryka Aoki. In her #scifi book Light from Uncommon Stars she uses a technique I'm trying to adopt- rapid POV switching. A few paragraphs in one POV, then a seamless switch to another. It's a beautiful way to connect with each MC & more deeply experience their interactions. 🔥
