My latest stone carving was a request from a friend's family for an Elephant. I think it came out pretty cute! There's white wax melted into the tusks, to help them retain their color. #elephant #stone #carving #art #artsky #stonesculpting #diy #sculpture

Here's a work in progress #soapstone #carving showing a cutaway interior model of a eukaryotic cell. Still need to clean it up, add more details, and polish it smooth. Decently happy with it so far, though! #artsky #stone #art

Today's #WIPSnips shows more of Trenton and Kate's relationship (past and future), gives a warning of strange magic ahead, and I think shows Kate's personality pretty well. from my in-progress urban fantasy novel, Paths Untouched by Mortal Feet #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

Trenton felt an old soreness inside him, the ache of things done wrong that couldn’t be righted. He started, “Look, Kate, I was stupid, and I’m probably still stupid, but..”

Kate waved him off, “No, look, the thing is, something you said scared your mom to death.” Trenton stopped, surprised. “After I went down the stairs, your mom pulled me aside. Wouldn’t let me leave the house.” Kate shook with remembered anger. “I was so pissed at you. You were just wasting your talent.” She half-laughed, “Man, look at me, I’m still angry at you for that.” She play-shoved Trenton.

“Anyway, she made me sit, fuming, while she tore her kitchen apart, pulling things out of all the cabinets and drawers. I was fuming, and I could still hear you sobbing upstairs, and I just wanted to be anywhere else. But your mom looked at me with these big, sad eyes, like she was worried sick about me. So I sat.”

“Finally, she finds whatever she was looking for, and reaches out and clasps this necklace on me.” She ran her fingers around the strange silver symbol that hung on the chain. “Then she pulled me close, like right up in her face, and made me promise to never take this necklace off.”

Kate stopped her fingers, gave a short bark of a laugh. “Seriously, Trenton. I’ve worn this necklace for like twenty years. I don’t even take it off when I shower.” Kate smirked, “I had this one boyfriend who it drove insane, he figured I was pining for some lost love and couldn’t get over it.”

This is my first time doing a #WIPSnips for my story, and here my MCs find themselves exploring a not-quite abandoned townhouse. From my in-progress urban fantasy novel, Paths Untouched by Mortal Feet. #WriteSky

Trenton shrugged and pulled out his phone, switching on the flashlight and barely noticing the long list of notifications that scrolled across the screen. “Okay, Kate, I guess we’re going in.”
This was all crazy. I can’t seriously be poking around in the dark, looking for ghosts or goblins or whatever. But his blood pumped fast in his veins, and he kept breaking into involuntary smiles. He glanced at Kate beside him. Her face switched rapidly between caution and excitement. His hand slipped into hers, and she squeezed back.
He put a tentative foot on the metal stair, easing his weight onto it, tensed and ready to jump back. But it held firm. His foot slid slightly, and worryingly, in the accumulated dust. “I’m not sure anyone has used these in a long time, but they should hold.”
They crept up the stairs, which defied expectation by being quiet and firm, no creaking, no ominous groans. At the top, they ended abruptly at a door which the glare of Trenton’s flashlight illuminated. It was plastered with magazine clippings and cut-outs that hid most of the white paint behind them. Each clipping was floral, mostly of roses, but sometimes of lilies or others, often with smiling women staring out as they shared their prized arrangements. The brass door handle and an ornate and old-fashioned brass knocker weren’t obscured.

Finished my latest #stone #carving! My son requested the Pokémon Ursaring, and while it's more an homage than an accurate model, I'm still pretty happy with how it turned out. And, on the plus side, I learned a great deal about fine details and how thin to make #soapstone. #art #artsky

I decided to try something new, for a bit, and maybe Tabletop RPG folks will join in or enjoy! I want to share an old #ttrpg character every day for a bit. Today's brief description is from a #nobilis #rpg game from 11 years ago. Anyone else want to share an old favorite character?

Text description of a Nobilis RPG character -

Mirrors

Bethany Romano is a visionary. She plans to build a mirror that Creation can hold against itself; a multifaceted, shimmering jewel that reflects the truth, the lies, the beauty, and the horror of the world so it can perceive itself. To do so, she travels the globe, setting mirrors to reflect the perfect moment, then preserving that reflection forever, adding the mirror to her ever-growing masterpiece. Lately, she intends to capture the glory and the tragedy of the Nobles who fight the Excrucian threat. It helps her work (and her occasional jokes) that she can make herself difficult to perceive by both mundane and miraculous means.
