COMIC: Waldo in Therapy
This single panel comic portrays a therapist’s office, with a chez lounge, a floor lamp, four framed certificates on the wall, a side table, a green rug on the floor, and a winged arm chair. In the arm chair sits a bald man with a large grey beard, holding a pencil with pad of paper. In the chez lounge lays WALDO from the in his iconic blue pants, red and white striped long-sleeve shirt, white and red beanie cap. He raises one hand gesturing as he animated exclaims:
WALDO: Not once! NOT ONCE! Has someone said HOW’S Waldo?!?

Grandiloquent Word of the Day @grandiloquentwords.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
Glump [glump] (n.) A gloomy, ill-tempered, sulking old crank. (v.) To sulk. From the Leicestershire adjective “glumpy” (gloomy) from “Glumpish” (of a stubborn, sulky temper) from the North Westmorland Dialect verb “glumpen” (sulking)
A "Grandiloquent Word of the Day" meme for the word “Glump.” The word is defined as “a gloomy, ill-tempered, sulking old crank” and “to sulk.” At right, a black-and-white illustration shows an angry bald man sitting stiffly in an armchair with clenched fists and a furious scowl. The example sentence reads: “When Mr. Grindlestump, a glump of the first water, discovered that the fête was to be held in the park directly across from his home, he filed an injunction to prevent the music, cakes, games, and other public indecencies from doing irreparable damage to his carefully cultivated gloom.”

TODAY'S COMIC: Anatomy of a Cockatrice
TITLE: Anatomy of Monsters: Anatomy of a Cockatrice

DESCRIPTION: A creature that is half-dragon, half-chicken stands on a rocky ground. His head is a rooster with red crest and dangly-bits, with his beak wide open, white feathers on it’s neck. His small chicken-arms stretch out into dragon wings. His belly is armored like a dragon, with a dragon tail, but his legs are chicken legs.

JOKES:
- Nothing strikes fear into hearts like a FULL-ON DRAGON with the head of a chicken.
- A mythical 12th-century beast, the cockatrice was created whenever “A toad hatched a chicken egg.” AND THAT’S JUST SCIENCE, GANG!
- (points to previous joke) Medieval scientists really thought eldritch horrors would result if a toad didn’t stick to its lane.
- Not the dude to invite over if you like your hardwood floors.
- The only creature that can make “bok bok bok” sound threatening.
- Spends the majority of his day wondering if he’s a bird with a lizard problem or a lizard with a bird problem.
- Much like the buttons at a cross-walk, his wings don’t actually DO anything.
- It’s funny when you realize that 100% of monster folklore is the result of bored farmers staring at livestock all day.

Bluesky pals! I have a sci-fi graphic novel called DRIVE, & it's my favorite thing I've ever done! If you need a long, escapist read at the moment the entire thing is free to read, here: drivecomic.com (THIS PAGE: A Working Group of Cousins )
PANEL 1: From behind NOSH and the CAPTAIN, ORLA pushes her point with her arms stretched out.
ORLA: You all haven’t seen the Jinyiwei reports I’ve seen, so let me bring you up to speed:

PANEL 2: Close up on ORLA as she counts on her fingers.
ORLA: The CEO of Indústriaglobo? DEAD. Head of Banco Imperial? DEAD. Four planetary governors? DEAD.

PANEL 3: Orla continues, pointing, while CUDDOW reacts with eyes wide next to her.
ORLA: TWENTY THREE high-ranking members of La Familia have been killed since the Emperor took the throne. HE CLEARED THE BOARD OF COMPETITION.
CUDDOW: Oof.

PANEL 4: ORLA continues talking, moving her hands to the side.
ORLA: So, seeing what was coming, a working group of cousins came together to keep ‘Nando safe. He was, after all, his father’s son. So they got him out of Madrid, and into space, and into a ship they knew they could trust.

PANEL 5: ORLA continues, CUDDOW and VINNIE look up at her.
ORLA: And along the way, a handful of Drive Corps were called in to help as well as a select few of Jinyiwei agents.

PANEL 6: NOSH points at ORLA, CUDDOW and VINNIE react with eyes wide and mouth open.
NOSH: And is that how you got pulled in? As Jinyiwei?
ORLA: No, Nosh… I got pulled in as FAMILIA.

A “Grandiloquent Word of the Day” meme featuring the word “Gravid” with pronunciation “[GRAV-id]” and part of speech “(adj.).” Two definitions follow: “1. Somebody turn this dang thing on. Photo from my collection, 1956.
Black and white photo of a scruffy little longhaired tuxedo tabby kitten, it looks ginger to me. It is sitting close in front of an enormous old television set with its head turned back toward the camera as if waiting for someone to turn the tv on. This is taking place in a living room type setting, the kitten sitting on a throw rug on a wooden floor.

Bluesky pals! I have a sci-fi graphic novel called DRIVE, & it's my favorite thing I've ever done! If you need a long, escapist read at the moment the entire thing is free to read, here: drivecomic.com (THIS PAGE: Sheer, Immovable Bulk)
PANEL 1: Close up on the nose of THE SPARK OF THOUGHT, m-wave blasts peppering the bottom of the ship.
NARRATION: On the surface, the devastation to the Spark of Thought was STUNNING. But size is a funny thing.

PANEL 2: The view of the SPARK OF THOUGHT has changed to be a little further away, from above. M-Wave blasts continues to pepper the bottom of them , a few of the blasts missing and going past the ship.
NARRATION: Sheer, immovable BULK is a shield of its own. Take the sharpest knife you can find and attack a bull elephant with it. SEE HOW FAR YOU GET.

PANEL 3: The Spark of Thought from the bottom. The M-Wave continues to pepper the bottom of the ship, but two large m-wave blasts from the center of the ship blast outward, toward Earth.
NARRATION: So yes, the surface destruction was INCREDIBLE— but at this pace, the ship would still be viable for another half hour.

PANEL 4: A view of the Nyxian ship fleet, the ship in the middle in high-contrast as it gets blasted by an m-wave.
NARRATION: The Nyx, however lacked that bulk. In under a minute, they lost five ships. TEN! Fifteen. Without armada transponders, THE SYSTEM FLAGGED THEM AS ENEMIES OF THE EMPIRE.

PANEL 5: LOS TRES PRIMOS ship has appear in the fray, a stripe down the center of the smaller ring ship. M-wave blasts surround it.
NARRATION: …just as it did for THE MORON’S BANE, which happened to unpinch space four seconds ago.

PANEL 6: From inside THE MORON’S BANE, GENN drives the ship, hands gripping the wheel, eyes wide, mouth wide open in a yell.
GENN, yelling, words filling the background: JEEZ JEEZ JEEZ JEEZ JEEZ JEEZ JEEZ JEEZ JEEZ JEEZ
