1. It is not 1975 anymore. Different options are available 2. There generally is not a person staying at home all day who can prepare a multicourse themed meal with an immaculate house 3. Not everyone has a house! Hosting a dinner party in a small apartment is not ideal. 4. Multiple jobs/schedules

My 40 seconds happened 25 years ago today, as an atypical (young and relatively healthy) patient. I am getting ready to go teach a color guard routine today because I had a boss who recognized the signs and got me immediately to hospital (And 11 mos of intense PT)

Time to Call 911
Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke.
The faster stroke is treated, the more likely the patient is to recover.
It could happen on your street, at your workplace, or in a store where you shop - anywhere. Knowing how to recognize the warning signs and acting quickly can save a life and help prevent long-term disability.
In fact, stroke patients who are treated with a clot-busting drug IV r-tPA Alteplase or Tenecteplase (TNK) within 4.5 hours of their first symptoms were more likely to recover with little or no disability.
Calling 911 is the fastest way to get stroke care. EMS can begin treatment immediately and alert the hospital stroke team before you arrive. That's why it's so important to learn the stroke warning signs and urge everyone you know to do the same.
In some cases, a procedure to remove the clot causing the stroke is also recommended. Ninety-one percent of stroke patients who were treated with a stent retriever within 150 minutes of first symptoms recovered with little or no disability.
The thing to remember is that stroke is largely treatable. It's a matter of getting the right treatment, right away.

OK, gonna nitpick a bit 1. If you were a kid in 86-I was-you were the one that had to do this for the family. You already knew 2. Valid. Green elf needs food, badly 3. Because by the end of the year you're buying CDs 4. Valid 5. Lots of neon was earlier, like 82-83. 86 was more neon accents (1/2)
From a 40 year ago account
1. Finally figure out how to program the VCR clock so it stops blinking 12:00
2. Cut back on arcade quarters, as Tempest and Gauntlet are eating my paycheck
3. Stop spending half my income on cassette tapes I already taped off the radioFrom a 40 year ago account:
4. Learn the words to a Prince song without mumbling through the fast parts
5. Wear fewer neon colors at the same time (one bold choice per outfit)
6. Save up for a Sony Walkman that doesn't eat tapes
7. Actually use my checking account instead of living on cash and vibesFrom a 40 year ago account
8. Call my parents more so they stop thinking MTV melted my brain
9. Learn to drive stick so I don't stall out in front of cute people
10. Decide whether I'm really a "new wave" person or just pretending for credibility

Background - I was a writer/production person for my college paper in Indiana (not IU/Purdue) This is *not* a small gesture. 1-the unis are BITTER rivals. 2-it is a ~2 hour drive between w/no traffic. 3-IU is a large campus, you're talking a box truck of papers. 4-And put out their own paper
I'm sure many of vou have heard by now that earlier
this week, IU k*Iled the print edition of its student
paper, the IDS. The issue that was supposed to print
this week contained criticism of the Whitten regime
and IUs further slide into Fscist control, and they
couldn't allow that to happen during Homecoming
when all the rich alumni are in town.

Enter Purdue! The Purdue student paper, The
Exponent, owns its own presses. Yesterday, in an act of
tremendous solidarity with their biggest rival school
they printed the forbidden issue of the IDS. They then
drove it to Bloomington overnight and stocked all of
the IDS boxes on campus, just in time for
Homecoming.

Solidarity is what makes us stronger, and solidarity wil
be what ultimatelv allows us to triumph, if we can ever
truly get it together. I hope evervone has a fun, safe
day if they're going out today, and I hope we can think
about what acts of solidaritv we can begin taking to
really make this movement MOVE - beyond a permitted
expression of upset into more active resistance
