It would be a very funny outcome if the tech industry forms a rift with the regime over "SI" in the same way Apple people got mad when you said "iWatch"

Mastodon has a different flavor of cursed, to be fair. But still cursed.

I think it was pretty meritless accusation, if you can even call it that, and at best it's guilt-by-association. I genuinely think Bluesky has a problem with this and I am genuinely complaining about it.

It's not a woe is me post, is the thing you're not getting. It's a complaint. I have deleted the post, yes, but now I kind of wish I hadn't so people could see the extent of what I actually said and how it had absolutely nothing to do with transphobia.

I mean, yes I said "it's pretty unfair to assume *I'm* up to speed on everything that has happened in the last 24 hours at all times" but I feel the same about anyone posting something. Ignorance is not the same as malice and that's my point. I extend that grace to others, at least I hope so.

I didn't even comment at all on that post. I wasn't even aware of it. But whatever, I don't need to defend myself.

Like, that's the thing. I woke up to someone I follow making a bunch of posts very much in my vibe. Lots of people made an assumption about some other thing that I must be cosigning on, and here I am saying "wow, I hadn't seen that" yet it's still my fault.

I think this is incredibly unreasonable, for what it's worth. I wasn't even on here yesterday.

Technology Connections @techconnectify.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I'm deliberately vague posting but basically my mentions have too many "wow, man, disappointing" replies because I praised the actions of someone who had done something earlier which I had not seen.

That is the way Bluesky has become like Twitter and I, for one, wish we weren't playing this game.

Y'know, sometimes you want to have one conversation, but the meta state of things forces another conversation. Fine, that's gonna happen, but... it's pretty unfair to assume I'm up to speed on everything that has happened in the last 24 hours at all times. And that's before we get to merit.

I'm not trying to be snarky, there, it's a case of "but /why/ are we using that internal system?" to me. We have to reckon with the purpose of the automation we are building and I'm not certain we're doing that. But, what gives me some hope, is the potential for custom solutions which aren't sold.
0120
Technology Connections @techconnectify.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I will admit to not knowing these sorts of specifics, but I've been generally aware of this potential. To me, though, the question remains: are you actually auditing your processes to weed out the shit that doesn't work or are you laying more processes on top of bullshit work?

Technology Connections @techconnectify.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
I have this radical idea that people should be able to use a product or service without needing their own electronic device. That's the kind of automation which bugs me. And it's automation which can only happen when software-brained people are in charge of the world.
1118412
Technology Connections @techconnectify.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
And this is what worries me. There's a lot of shit these days which doesn't work because companies have become software-brained. Note: I'm not saying because the software is bad (though it often is), I'm saying "they're using software for things they shouldn't which degrades the product"

Hot take: I agree software has the potential to get better with AI systems. Evidence seems to suggest we're on our way there if not already there. The real question is whether more software is the solution to all of our problems.
2370
Technology Connections @techconnectify.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
And that's what we're seeing over and over again in those replies. When you point out that most people don't think like that, they either don't believe you or feel judged. They're proselytizing their ideal of a "simpler life" without understanding the rest of us just want to be left alone.

It's been pretty obvious to me for a while that the people getting the most value out of AI right now are hacker-types. And those folks are great! But they're not so great at realizing they approach problems in ways that are completely foreign and unnecessary to average folks.

My personal take is that we're going to quickly find out just how many bullshit jobs there are in the corporate world. It's going to be very economically damaging to remove those bullshit jobs, and I don't have much faith we'll handle that well. But maybe we shouldn't have set things up this way.

We all struggle with self-awareness from time to time, but woof those folks need to notice the mirror right in front of them.

The success of that automation relies on paying customers preferring that new normal. This is the assumption many are making which I am not certain of.

You'll still have to deal with annoying software re: battery preconditioning, though. If you're planning to drive long distances in cold weather this is a pain If that's not in your use case, or a relatively rare occurrence, it's not much of an issue though. And there is a fix I'll be talking about

Oh yes, and it's been trouble-free since then. Hyundai has also extended the warranty on that part to 15 years/180k miles. It's obviously still a massive inconvenience if it fails, but now that the parts backlog is clearing it's much less of a hassle.

It's always been stupid and fake, but even more so now, that a "caravan" of migrants would be coming here, of all times, given how we are torturing and renditioning and sending them to concentration camps.

IMO, the most powerful thing one can do to move through life more easily is to challenge one's assumptions. But to be willing to accept the outcome of a challenge which shows your assumptions were wrong is a kind of vulnerability — and can bring emotional discomfort. So I can understand avoidance.

I kinda think that was a cultural recognition of what small d democracy is supposed to nurture. Seems very forced by the standards of decades that followed, but these days... standards have left the building.

Technology Connections @techconnectify.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
For sure, but I think there's a case to be made that those disclaimers were indicative of a culture which tried to make explicit that "media is something you can learn and grow from even when that's not the ostensible point of going to see a movie"

I'm not sure if it's an unwillingness or inability to connect information presented generally to one's personal context... but either way it's not great, and I see it a lot despite my best efforts to head it off. And I'm not just talking about YouTube comments.

I found auto-connecting in the rental cars I've had annoying enough to know that if I had a car with wireless projection I would turn it off. Basically forcing a physical control onto the thing. I understand this is largely a me thing but that's just how I like it

I have had the odd share of disconnections via a cable but they're quite rare. Mainly, I don't typically want Android Auto running. I use it when I need maps, mainly, and listen to the radio a lot. So my brain prefers a paradigm where the cable is the answer to "yes/no" and not some phone setting
