I try not to sound hysterical or absurdist when writing about what people might see as small beans or unimportant policy to them. Unfortunately some of those things have far reaching consequences and we as people aren’t great at seeing them right away! It’s hard to see evil when it feels banal.

At least we could know it was Twitch making those decisions on how to enforce those guidelines, but if it's outsourced to AI to do all that for them? Congrats Twitch, you've fully washed your hands of the responsibility. I do not trust advertisers or AI to do the right thing here.

Meanwhile, I can talk about my lived experiences and it's *not* political. The framing here I already hate since it still frames (albeit just out of view of me) my existence as a political issue. On top of that, it puts a burden on allies that might have a monetary impact on them.

If you'll notice on the guidelines, this includes when you are "engaging in any kind of advocacy for an issue" with the exception of "if you are speaking about your lived experiences on topics such as gender, race, sexuality, or religion." If an ally advocates for trans rights, it's political.

A while ago, Twitch rolled out new content classification guidelines that when enabled also surfaces to advertisers as part of how they want their ads to run across channels. Glad to know they're outsourcing potential discrimination onto AI so Twitch doesn't have to be the one to do it.
