If only there were some way to measure the total amount spent on food over time.

Alternatively, put them in extremely silly uniforms.

I think that politicians should be on "the same Nazi education level" as a member of the public that can use Google.

You'd still see movement to higher incomes across the board.

An incumbent party lagging in the polls needs a new leader that is broadly popular, not already in Parliament yet not new to top tier politics, and has a track record of electoral success, you say?

Maybe we can try something different, e.g.

Impossible. Inconceivable. Never been done before.

Not like it's new for the NYT to dismiss complete insanity. Just look at their coverage of Hitler.

You don't even need to make it an argument, that's the whole thesis. And the ongoing backlash to liberal democracy was part of the prediction:

Let's consult the chart.

And by "everyone", you actually mean Republicans.

Teakei @teakei.bsky.social · 12/02/2025
I'd like to think an approval rating crash this extreme is irrecoverable, even if the public has a tendency to be amnesiac.

Sure, pal.

Which 50%, again?

It's even funnier when it comes from the left because they are agreeing with Republicans more than anyone. I guess the GOP is the real class conscious party!
171
Teakei @teakei.bsky.social · 12/02/2025
I think the actual problem is that Republicans don't think at all.

Partisanship.

Do either of these look like wage stagnation to you?

The "most iniquitous economy in history"? Are you going to let the author know, since his very own data says otherwise?
150
Teakei @teakei.bsky.social · 12/02/2025
Trump won because the economy is bad because our measurement says so. Our measurement also says that things were even worse in the past, and that's why Clinton, Bush, and Obama all lost re-election.

Their own numbers say they are wrong!
040
Teakei @teakei.bsky.social · 12/02/2025
You believe this, yet according to the author's very own data, you are wrong. Things are better than the entirety of the 90s, 2000s, and 2010s.

"Things are worse now than in the past", yet the author's own data says exactly the opposite.

Turns out you are, because CPI does include them. In fact, CPI is very slightly *higher* if you exclude them!
000
Teakei @teakei.bsky.social · 12/02/2025
That's the best part, they have! That's why Clinton, Bush, and Obama all lost re-election when the "true rate" was even higher than in 2024. Wait a minute...
070
Teakei @teakei.bsky.social · 12/02/2025
Everyone knows the 90s were an economic catastrophe. That's why Bill Clinton was extremely unpopular and lost the 1996 election.

This might seem intuitive but is wrong. You don't see this happen with food, or cars, or furniture. If you are a builder and your competitors stop building because they want prices to rise, they've just handed you an opportunity to undercut them. The difference is the planning system. See:

There is absolutely no material explanation for either the trends in question nor the gap between the two groups of voters, aside from the simultaneous drop from the pandemic.

It's actually impossible to underestimate the average person's understanding of statistics. Case in point:
