I in fact turned down a job at a top private school to come to the University of New Hampshire. Twice. Because public universities matter, and they especially matter in rural communities where they are major economic engines. $100 million being stolen from Maine is catastrophic. PAY ATTENTION.

I guess I don’t see why they can’t make the block list computationally difficult to access without making it theoretically private. E.g. replace user A’s plaintext blocklist entry B with hash(A+B). Still computationally easy to check if A blocks B as required for federated blocks…

something important I learned today: structurally, bluesky isn't really "a website where people post things" Instead, each *user* is effectively a website. Bluesky is an app for posting to your site and managing/following your web ring. Which is cool and clever! but can also be *very dangerous*
