@npr.org maybe don't post a headline photo of a sexual assault survivor cropped to make her look naked (I've blurred her face here)
An NPR headline "How the Cornell case is affecting women who have experienced sexual assault" under a censored image of what appears to be a portrait of a naked woman

You find yourself faced with two guardians. One sometimes lies, and the other sometimes tells the truth, because both have an orthogonal relationship to the concept of truth.

The red button blue button meme is a glaring "we need humanities and not just STEM" example. Everyone saying that pressing the red button is the Nash equilibrium is wrong. Pressing the blue button is the Nash equilibrium *and* Pareto efficient, bc a blue loss results in a world not worth living in.

@leebillings.bsky.social In the article "Master of Chaos..." it states, "A linear equation is something like y = 2x, which states that the value of y doubles whenever you double the value of x." but this is incorrect; what is described is y = x.

I assume the machine is keyed to reject it in front of the voter, but any ambiguous ballots should be reviewed before the election is certified. I worked for the Broward County Florida elections office years ago (years after 2000!) and they took it gravely serious given the history there.

Yesterday's school shooting won't show up in a bunch of summary statistics. "Only" two people other than the shooter died, so it won't count as a mass shooting as counted by many organizations.

I'm normally hesitant to make claims of causality, but it's a pretty easy bet that repeated infection with an incredibly damaging virus is a more likely cause of detriment to kids than other kids being out of school for a few months before they were even born.

The professors defending the use of LLMs to create course content in this article are beyond embarrassing. No, this is not "AI" and students will not need to know how to "ethically" use this in their careers. Anyone pretending otherwise is misinformed, lying, or both.

Travis Dawry @tdawry.bsky.social · 28/01/2025
The most important point in all of this is that LLMs still lack a valid use case. There is a new kid on the block that is apparently *much* less expensive when it comes to doing nothing particularly useful. All the money involved in "AI" is still on the costs end.

Unfortunately, the Presidency has a history of love for insurrectionists. Eisenhower helped smash the Nazis last time, but he kept a portrait of Lee in the Oval Office. He called him a "great American." Every Republican President since has been a segregationist, but so have some of the Democrats.
