A cedar waxwing, striking in the photo as the exposure has been blasted out like crazy. The outline of the bird resting on a thin and wispy branch stands out strikingly against a white back drop, streaked with other thin, black spider legs, sprouting various yellow-green tufts of leaves at the tips of their wodded fingers, as honey on the claws of a bear. The bird's belly is visible a wonderful gradient from yellow to brown as your eyes might gaze from the tail to the head. Just across its eyeline a thin black mask obscures the nature of its optical receptors and yet you can feel that they are trained on you. For as the artist captures his muse, the muse too stares back and captures the wonder of the observer. As if there were inherent beauty in not just the act of seeing but of being seen. This bird captivated me and I hope in a way I returned unto it some joy. That a land-bound ape marvelled for a moment and that in so touching me, it was touched back. To appreciate one's own beauty through the eyes of another and to not take for granted one's own form. A beautiful thing
