People expect way too much from you way early. sub a year, babies are a grub that you have to physically carry everywhere. Baby is 4mo now and people expect things to be the same and that we can stay out for hours on end. It feel like people are just hyper unaware of their own behavior and patterns

The hardest part of having a kid, isn't the exhaustion or pain or cleaning, all the baby stuff is hard but worth it, but some people are actually fucking mean to me now or treat me like I'm an invalid or some shit. Your friends circle closes hard and fast almost immediately.

Took me all day but finally got my brooder stack setup. For about 6 years I've been using just whatever tub I had laying around and finally I've got a really nice setup that has a lot of options for care and sanitation. Suuuuper stoked to make more show chickens this way

I was going to give updates but it ended up being a whirlwind of so many birds and so much to do that 5hrs later all the birds and showmanship is completed! Best of show went to a red Pyle modern game hen that was really lovely and had the right shape and type. Didn't get a picture of her sadly!

Chicken genetics are very strange, they don't use xy, they use zw and zz; the egg contains either z or w, and it's split 50:50 roosters only shoot z There are barred whites, dominant white, and recessive whites and the colors are all controlled in different zones of the birds feathers! Pretty neat!

Shes a bit tattered because its molting season but you can tell the feathers are no longer the correct cuckoo barring The gene appears to fault very similar to human graying of our hair. It's pretty neat.She's a cross of two lines (PBJ x Justice are their names) and I'm curious to see how she ages!

My side hobby is preserving this specific breed of heritage poultry's genetics. Genetically all of these birds are black, but they Carey the barring gene that causes the melanocytes of the feathers to die early (but consistently) But this bird seems to have a gene causing them to die erratically

Thank you! I think something about using specific kinda 'not so great' tools helps with that. You have to be super intentional about interpreting volumes and fundamentals with limited means.

Just the amount and frequency that I am asked to rehash basically the same thing over and over for the last 5 years has been increasing. Everyone is afraid to work collaboratively and let concept artists cook up ideas and do research.

Nothing fucking pisses me off more than some shlep reporting people for enjoying green spaces. We have a trail in our town that has been abandoned by the dept of environmental protection, and is maintained by volunteers now, and some actual walking asshole reported one of the volunteers.
