3 days in NYC in the books. Now starting 3 days in Chattanooga. There will be much less walking in Chattanooga. (That's not a complaint about NYC - I love walking when we travel.) 35.6 miles walked. 72,833 steps.

I wanted to do a thing, but was foiled by construction. The pole in the photo is about 6 inches from my hand, and it’s up against a huge construction barrier. So this is as good as I could manage. I’ve learned on this trip that approx. 92.6% of NYC is under construction.

The Rose Reading Room at the NY Public Library was closed (visiting hours are 10-11am, of which we were not aware), but we did get to see the actual Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Roo, Piglet, and Eeyore.

A collection of very old stuffed animals: a bear, tiger, piglet, kangaroo, and donkey.

MAGA is a death cult. Remember Joni Ernst in 2025 saying the exact same thing in response to concerns about kicking people off Medicaid?? And Tucker waited until NOW to tell us this? Screw that guy.

Just saw one of Trump's very partisan political ads in the lounge at the airport. "Paid for by the US Government" = paid for by taxpayers. How TF is that legal?

Herbert got bailed out by defensive holding on what would have been a pick in the end zone. So far this season, his decision making has been pretty poor. Almost had another one picked in the first half, but the defender dropped it.

Heading to NYC tomorrow for a quick 3-day trip before a wedding. Wife and step-kid’s first time. Looks like we may be stuck inside museums for 3 days instead of exploring the city on foot like we’d planned. Just our luck.

AJ Croce at The Crest in Sacramento. Looked to be sold out or close to it. Great show. Good mix of his and his father’s songs.

As someone who sat on many interview panels as well as final interviews, I never once gave a crap if a candidate showed up with a coffee, iced or otherwise. This entire thing is hilarious.

Went to Crockercon this weekend, and got a cool print of Godzilla and Mechagodzilla fighting over the Tower Bridge in Sacramento. It's from artist Brandon McKinney (Godzilla King of the Monsters, Batman Beyond, etc.)

Drawing of Godzilla fighting Mechagodzilla with Sacramento's Tower Bridge below them.

Cover of the Crockercon program, titled “Tales of Crockercon”. There’s a drawing of a robot with the text “Who? Or what, melds “pop” culture and high art into the most breath-taking, most sensational comics festival of all?…Crockertron! Heroic!…Defender!…of the Comic Arts!”

Three smaller side panels at “What?…is pop culture?”
“What?…is entertainment?”
“What?…is art?”

It's official: the 2026 Chargers defense is aweful. Start any and all offensive opponents in FF (particularly receivers and QBs).

After reading this thorough review of MacOS 27, looks like I'll be skipping yet another generation. (MBP and Mini are both on Sequoia) IF they put back the AI toggle switch, I'll reconsider. But forcing up to 17GB of something I don't want to use and can't be turned off? I'm out.

In case you missed it, Putin's oligarch buddy spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay for Trump Jr's wedding. Supposedly because he's just a nice person. Nothing to see here, right? (The Trump Cult will waive this off, as they have everything else.)

I have fond memories of Packard Bell computers. I worked part time at Circuit City while in college, and sold a ton of them. They helped me pull down close to full time pay in just 20 hrs/week. (CC was commission based pay, and computers paid very well…) www.engadget.com/2252026/pack...

Ugh. Just found out my favorite local record store is closing Oct 31. They’ll continue to do popups and record swaps until their inventory is gone, but it’s a serious loss. Luckily we have several others in town, but this was my favorite. RIP Phono Select.

Fun couple of days in Ashland. Saw A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, had good eats/drinks at Alchemy, Mix Bakeshop, Cafe Lumina, and Bar Juillet, and explored downtown + Lithia Park. Couple nice vinyl/CD shops, a solid game store, good comic book shop, and more.

Your daily reminder that the tariff taxes we now pay will never go away. Even if the tariffs are abolished. Once companies have people paying a higher price for their products, that's what they cost. Until they go up again. Prices do not go down after this kind of fuckery. Have a nice Labor Day.
