Filmmaker Jeanna Kolesova @jeannakolesova.bsky.social made a moving speculative documentary about peat & peatlands in the USSR, drawing, in part, on stories from my 🔥Burning Swamps🔥. The trailer & stills give you a sense of what I struggled to convey in writing 👉 jeannakolesova.com/in-zombie-fire
B/W stills from the documentary In Zombie Fire. On top, a man with a hat standing in a landscape of trees and houses, next to an old fashioned camera; on the bottom: a woman in a skirt involved in turning peat sods

Stone #fishweir aka “me” of the #MarshallIslands. Aligned around the outer edge, atoll large groupings of stone V-shaped weirs can be identified. Structurally, the traps come in two distinct forms: a U-shaped & V-shaped, with a round catch area at the eye of the weir. #coastalhistory #4oceans 1/5

This is how it looks: the splendid future of 20th c. Irish environmental history! Earlier this month, we celebrated the graduation of Dr Gabriel Coleman & Dr Lily Toomey. It was such a privilege to supervise these two brilliant minds. Watch out for their work! /1 (image posted with permission)

Preserved wicker fish trap dating to the Roman period from #Valkenburg, #Netherlands. One of the traps found in wet sites in the region was identified as a Roman site on a major waterway, where a northern branch of the Rhine River flowed into the North Sea. #coastalhistory #4oceans
