I can usually distinguish between one you and many yous (context is king), or rather, it's not any more difficult than the difference between sie (= they) and Sie (= formal you). What I meant was that grammatically "you ARE" is plural (even if you address 1 you), similar to "we ARE" or "they ARE".

In movies and shows with pandemics they often show a map how the disease will spread, and it's often very linear, like from the east coast through the midwest to the west coast. When in reality as soon as an epidemic hits a large-ish city with a large-ish airport it spreads all over the world.

It probably helped that I'm german and learned english as a foreign language. :-) I was old enough to recognize the pattern before I just accepted it as "that's how english works".

That makes sense. I always considered "you" as the formal form and the informal form "extinct" because grammatically you seems to be a plural form, just like the french vous and the german Sie which is not only plural but also 3rd person. I always felt like the 2nd person singular was missing.

We must stop paying "Big Fossil" and start transitioning to renewables. AI won't help with that. It only makes it worse.

Tauriel @tauriel1.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
No, what is often said between the lines when they say "AI will solve climate change" is, "With AI we will invent a magical technology that will allow the fossil industry to keep and rake in even more profits while it magically doesn't emit CO2." Which is stupid, and which doesn't and won't exist.
110
Tauriel @tauriel1.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
Yes, I know. But the reasoning to use AI is always like "AI will solve all of humanity's problems", especially "AI will cure cancer" and "AI will solve climate change", completely ignoring that fact that we already know how to avoid/mitigate the climate crisis.

We DID solve climate change already. Electrify, renewables, traffic transition, heating transition, industry transition, etc. There's barely anything left to "solve". We know exactly what to do. We just have to actually DO it.

New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854
Taxing Entrepreneurial Wealth: Evidence from
Norway, 2021-2025
Marius A. K. Ring
WORKING PAPER 35854|
DOl 10.3386/w35854
ISSUE DATE October 2026
Whether imposing higher taxes on business owners adversely affects business activity by constraining investment and inducing capitalist flight is a central question in the ongoing debate on how to tax the ultra wealthy. To shed new light, I exploit a series of related Norwegian reforms during 2021-2024 that increased dividend tax rates, removed migration-related capital gains tax loopholes, and nearly doubled the effective marginal tax rate on business wealth. These reforms spurred international debate and, allegedly, an "exodus" of Norwegian billionaires (Financial Times,
2023). While I document clear effects on migration, these responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution and mostly confined to 2022 and 2023. My results indicate that at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms. I find no evidence of significant outmigration or reduced inflows of startup founders or inventors. I estimate that absent any outmigration, wealth tax revenues would have increased by 75% from 2021 to 2024. Reform-driven outmigration lowers the revenue gain to 71.5%. My findings further show that outmigrating owners' firms remain economically active and do not reduce investment. In a broader set of analyses, I examine whether business outcomes are affected, regardless of whether owners outmigrate, since firms may reduce investment both due to liquidity constraints or distortions to owners' savings decisions. I compare firms owned by Norwegian individuals subject to the wealth tax with firms owned by foreigners and other tax-exempt entities. By merging historical ownership data from Orbis with the Norwegian shareholder register, I perform these analyses on both Norwegian and foreign-domiciled firms.
Across settings, I find no evidence that Norwegian-owned firms pay out more dividends or invest less after the reforms,…

In an August 2021 thread on X, Schlichter demanded an authoritarian crackdown on "liberals."

"We must, by any means necessary, force them to be like us. No quarter. No compromise," Schlichter wrote. In the thread, he advocates for manning everything from masks and unions to critical race theory and "leftist media." (Last year, Hegseth's Department of Defense required journalists to sign a pledge that would prevent them from gathering certain information. Most major journalists refused to sign the pledge and left the Pentagon.)

In the same thread on X, Schlichter also suggested that people who don't have children, who do not serve in the military, and who don't own property should not be allowed to vote. "Penalize barren, non-familial lifestyles through taxes and disqualification from political patricipation," Schlichter wrote. "Establish property and military service qualifications for voting."
