Drones are at maximum operational temperature limits (105°F), so looks like we're doing good old fashioned ground surveys without aerial support. At least the air quality is great! Party on!

A local weather report showing a current heat index of 102°F, with it topping it at 108°F at 2pm PT.

It also says "Extreme Caution" and "Oppressive", and I can tell you that it ain't lyin'.

A local UV Index report showing that there is a high sunburn risk from 11am to 2pm.

The UV scale is from 0-11+ and we're currently at an 8-10.

An air quality index showing a lovely and pleasant air quality rating. (Only 34 PM2.5 which is particulate that is 2.5 micrometers in diameter, which can easily enter the lungs.

The Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, who's quals for the position include reality TV and being a lumberjack put forth a new directive about the usage of drones. One part partially relaxes the regulations for flying over people (that'll be LOTS of fun) but also changes rules for BVLOS.

Here's a couple more of those NGL things while I'm waiting for Big Blue to get an oil change. Well, week went ok. Finally stopped getting calls from the FBI about TFRs. Everything is going as well as it is (which is, honestly, not totally awesome), and tomorrow I'm inspecting roofs with the drone.

A great example of "cancer brain": I went to my water filter to refill my water bottle (OCD. I only drink water if it's from one of my bottles). I turn on the filter. Wait for it to get cold. Can't figure out why I can't unscrew the cap. That's because I was holding my phone, not my water bottle.

There's a really cool site in San Pedro that we have really great records of. A tsunami hit the area sometime during the Late Pleistocene that created a two foot thick shelf of what we call fossil hash — a hardened, sedimentary rock of crushed and tumbled marine fossils. It's really, really cool.

Hey LA: A tsunami isn't always a hundred foot tall wave. A tsunami is a very specific term describing (usually) a geological effect on displacement that causes a series of long, fast deep water waves. As those waves get closer to shore they are compacted and slow down, and then start peaking.

I did not expect my job to require calling the FBI to inform them when and where I'm flying my drone for surveys and construction. Seven separate anti-drone TFRs (Temporary Flight Restriction) to prevent the press from taking aerial photos and video. Only commercial non-media waivers are approved.

A map of the Greater Los Angeles Metro Area showing 8 red circles over specific areas representing areas under Temporary Flight Restriction. Seven smaller ones are over Westwood, Downtown LA, Paramount/Compton, San Pedro, two in Seal Beach/Los Alamitos, and Santa Ana.

These specific TFRs created by the FBI to prevent media from taking drone photos and videos of protests against ICE.

Other commercial uses (such as construction survey, etc.) are approved for waivers only with strict conditions, such as calling local field offices and telling them when and where you will be flying.

Every media waiver has been denied.
