Friar who holds people hostage with long, boring stories is complaining to me about someone who held him hostage with a long, boring story.

Arrivederci, Franco.

"Our dead are never dead to us until we have forgotten them: ... they know all our penitence, all our aching sense that their place is empty, all the kisses we bestow on the smallest relic of their presence." ~ George Eliot, 'Adam Bede' Rhyl Sands (1836) 🎨 David Cox

Accept without discouragement that the experience of God in prayer feels fleeting. It feels this way because God is not a 'thing' that can be possessed. In this sense prayer is the first and best school of evangelical poverty, because the object of our desire will not be grasped.

Know that when you recognize the presence of God, this is how we, in our limited perception, experience God recognizing and calling to us. This is a sort of optical illusion of the interior vision that happens because of our being limited to time and space.

Wishing everyone a nice brindis on the feast of the 'Doctor Apostolicus', St. Lawrence of Brindisi, general definitor and vicar general of the Order, imperial chaplain, and the lone doctor of the Church (so far) of our glorious Capuchin reform.

Blown away by Idaho Falls today. The Snake River falls are gorgeous, but the community’s care is what struck me. Swings, benches, the pristine Friendship Garden—everything is beautifully maintained. It’s a peaceful oasis that shows what happens when a city values its shared spaces. 🌊💚
Wide-angle view of a broad, rushing river cascading over a series of low, rocky waterfalls spanning the width of the channel. The water is a light green-tinted grey, churning with white foam as it flows over dark rock formations and small, tree-lined islands. Lush green trees and vegetation line both sides of the riverbank, with a stone and metal railing visible on the far-left foreground. The background features a line of dense green trees and distant buildings under a dramatic sky filled with heavy, dark storm clouds on the left contrasting with brighter, white clouds on the right.A scenic photograph looking across the Snake River towards the Japanese Friendship Garden bridge in Idaho Falls. The light gray, metal truss-and-beam pedestrian bridge spans the river from a bank of dense trees (pines and deciduous) to the right, crossing over to a view of the falls in the distance and a rocky, landscaped island with a viewing platform. The river, which has green-tinted water, flows around large, jagged volcanic basalt rock formations. In the immediate foreground, a black metal safety railing on a wooden walkway defines the edge, leading the eye into the scene. The sky above is a vibrant blue filled with scattered white, puffy cumulus clouds. On the left bank, small figures of people are visible on a path near the bridge, and a smaller waterfall spills over rocks. Trees line both banks. The lighting is sunny and bright.A sunny daytime photograph, looking into a tranquil, well-manicured riverside park. To the left, the calm Snake River water flows, bordered by large, grey, natural river stones. Between the water and a grassy lawn are many mature, leafy trees with gnarled trunks. On the grass, partially shaded by the trees, sits a solitary black metal park bench facing the river. To the right, a paved walking path curves away, leading into the background with a person on a bicycle far ahead. A vintage-style black ornate lamppost is positioned in the immediate right-foreground. The park lawn is bright green grass, and the sky is blue with a few scattered clouds.A bright, sunny daytime photograph of a lush green lawn in a park next to the wide, calm Snake River. In the grassy foreground, four small beavers are scattered across the lawn, blending in slightly with the grass and shadows. The riverbank is lined with large, grey landscaping stones, several young leafy green trees, and a classic black metal lamppost with a white globe light. The river flows gently in the midground, reflecting the sunlight, while the far bank features a dense line of mature green trees, some evergreen pines, and a clear blue sky with a few wispy white clouds above.

(Today marks the 11th Mother's Day since my mother passed. 🥹 Her favorite poem, which she often quoted, was written in 1913 and started "I think that I shall never see..." I'm laughing at Flanoy's version, while remembering my Mom. 💞)
Black and white photo of a soft mound with a tree growing in the middle, sunlit clouds in the background. Over the top, in white sans serif font, is written this 1913 poem:

Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918)
Trees

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
