I just DEVOURED Single Player by @taratai.com and I’m in love. As a romance reader and gamer I have never felt such joy at seeing two of the things I adore the most be combined!! I LOVED this!! 🩷

🏳️‍🌈 This one is for the gaymers! 🎮 @taratai.com and I talked about the best romantic storylines in games, and how they wrote a rom-com about two game devs who butt heads while writing romantic storylines in a new video game. Meta! Listen in the Rebel Ever After feed: open.spotify.com/episode/5QnE...

“To make a romance really sing in a video game, there has to be something that you as the hero are uniquely positioned to help this character with. There's probably something you have to sacrifice that is a measure of how much you love them. Especially in a Choices Matter game, are you willing to go after this love interest if it jeopardizes your chance of getting the special weapon that will help you one-shot that boss?” - Tara Tai

Some days, you share an elevator with a PEN/Hemingway award winner but don't recognize her, and when she asks about your Baldur's Gate 3 shirt, you tersely say, "It's an owlbear." Then you see the line for people waiting to get books signed by her and realize your mistake. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh-kay but also, that made me laugh, and also also, Hiedeman scored right after that. 🤠

Wife scored a free exhibitor pass to #paxeast, and if that's not the single most Single Player Cat Li thing to happen to us, idk what is.

Just started reading Single Player by @taratai.com and as a queer person who left a steady career in healthcare admin to go to school for game dev, I feel so seen lol

If you're a type A, chronically burnt out person and want to cry at least once an hour, I highly recommend Wanderstop. What a deeply clever, deeply introspective, not-quite-cozy game.

Thanks for the lovely review and thanks for reading! And I paraphrased/reworded a deep cut party banter Varric shared with Dorian in the epigraph. :)

It feels like shouting into the void these days because it seems like a lot of allos don’t care, but when our own community doesn’t care either? Yikes. Anyway in case it helps reach even one more ace person… a lot of my books have ace rep! These are some!

Book cover for Tarnished are the Stars by Rosiee Thor: blue and purple starry background with an outline of an astronomical clock. The title is made up of gold and silver mechanical parts.

Book cover for Fire Becomes Her by Rosiee Thor: the title is written in gold against a dark blue starry sky. In the foreground, a white girl with brown hair stands with her back to the audience wearing a black and gold gown that sparkles with magical flames.

Book cover for Life is Strange: Steph’s Story by Rosiee Thor. Steph, a white girl with shoulder length light brown hair, is in the foreground wearing a beanie and a blue and pink jacket. Behind her are band posters, a flyer for nayte do the bands, drumsticks, and a d20.

Book cover for Being Ace: an anthology of queer, trans, femme, and disabled stories of asexual love and connection edited by Madeline Dyer. The title is written in bit black letters against a purple to pink gradient background. Interwoven with the letters is a person with purple skin, black hair, white clothes, and platform boots. They are holding the asexual flag between their fingers.

This is devastatingly real. Also, I've devolved into the "pour trail mix directly into mouth from bag" stage of "writing."
