Rolf Zwaan, discussing some low quality criticism on the replication studies he is planning by scientists on bluesky: "Those who wrote the Bluesky posts produced misinformation. Those who liked those posts fell for the misinformation." rolfzwaan.substack.com/p/a-case-of-...

The French made a short film about what could happen after all immigrants would follow the ‘white, angry old man’s’ advice to go back where they came from.

The Cognition Group in the Psychology dept at Exeter are at risk of redundancy because "basic cognitive psychology research does not align with the current priorities of funding bodies" If you think this is overtly wrong and misguided, please sign this open letter docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Finally out in Psychological Review (psycnet.apa.org/doi/10.1037/...), our update to Signal Detection Theory. We show that contrary to the prevailing Gaussian assumption, evidence distributions in recognition memory are likely minimum extreme Gumbel!
Figure 7: Illustration of the Gumbel-min Signal Detection Model
Figure consists of three panels.
Bottom-left panel: The Gumbel-min latent-strength distributions associated with SIGNAL (old) and NOISE (new) items. Top-left panel: The log likelihood ratio (log-LR) for the two latent-strength distributions. Right panel: The receiver operating characteristic function produced by the two latent-strength distributions. pH = hit probabilities; pFA = false-alarm probabilities.

Did you know you can search for R packages by what they do, as opposed to just their names? Look! 👉🏼 rwarehouse.netlify.app @kylieainslie.bsky.social made The Warehouse for just this purpose. Send it to a new R programmer today ❤️ because it's the resource we all wish we'd had at some point #rstats
Screenshot of a website with "The Warehouse" at the top. The user has typed "add interactivity to a ggplot" into the search bar at the top of the website and results below include plotly and ggiraph

That’s also my experience. It seems totally unmanageable. In fact, I’ve decided to skip to Research Box for the new projects

Okay, thanks anyway! I like the way you’ve structured things though, so I might ‘borrow’ some ideas from you 🫣

Sorry to intrude, but which resources are you using to build these slides? I also teach research methods to 1st-year undergrads, and my first class also covers a bit of philosophy of science. It’s by far the class I’m least happy with.

🚨 I’m incredibly excited to share this one: Latest paper out in Nature Human Behaviour! Publishing in Nature has always been a goal of mine, and I’m so happy I got there with work developed at Princeton, where I learned so much and grew as a researcher. 1/9

Since 1954, "The Handbook of Social Psychology" has been the field’s most authoritative reference work, and today is the launch of the 6th edition with 50 new chapters by 100 leading scholars. Best news? The HSP is now an open-access public resource—free to read, download, and share. the-hsp.com

Today, the ERC formally adopted a decision to increase its support for researchers moving to Europe. On top of its normal grants, the ERC offers 'start-up' funding to help PIs establish laboratories / research teams in Europe. This extra funding is now x2 (up to €2 million!) europa.eu/!6Vdgmp

Is anyone putting together a symposium for #SESP2025 in 🇵🇹 Lisbon? I would like to go, but the symposium-only format is proving difficult. Looking to present grant-funded research on occupational moral roles, which also fits stereotypes, social categories, etc.
