I don't know if it counts as minor, considering they use the name constantly, but in Vikings, the name "Kattegat" is so nonsensical for a Norwegian village. It is the later Dutch name for a sea at the time entirely in Danish waters. Wrong language, century, country, location.

The alliterative reason is an excellent solution to why this name exists.

No, you can hang as many as you want. This is from my mother's home church. I think it has 9 models in total distributed throughout the church.

They're models of real ships, gifted to the church as offerings/prayers for a safe journey home.

Giving the US access to two small, remote bases is basically free for Greenland to do. In exchange, they got the treaty bound to NATO, recognition of their independence aspirations and international status, preferential treatment and more. It was a massive win for them.

Inspired by PoE and glancing blows, for my homebrew trrpg, I ditched d20 and attack rolls. The players just roll damage, armour class is subtracted, and they deal the remaining result in damage. A player can still miss if they roll low enough damage, but it doesn't sting the way a 1 on a d20 does.

Then the treaty wouldn't apply. All NATO countries, NATO partner countries, and EU countries are exempt. It targets countries that Denmark would never allow to build bases on their soil anyway.

"The Parties agree that states or investors from a state that is not a member of NATO, a NATO partner, or an EU member state" the quote is incomplete. The treaty specifically allows EU states as well. Plus, this provision is to be decided and enforced by Greenland and Denmark, not the US.

This treaty has practically speaking no impact on Greenland in terms of economy and independence. The conditions are unchanged in that regard. I don't think anybody has actually read or understood the treaty. There's a reason Naalakkersuisut has been so positive about it.

Approval of any further military bases, for instance, which they didn't have before. In general, the treaty promises to respect the environment and Greenlandic people, which past bases didn't do. So a strengthening of Greenland's autonomy compared to before.

Greenland signed it too. Since the updated treaty gives them influence too, they seem satisfied.

A lot of North Americans will happily fight Trump to the last Greenlander/Dane, apparently. Very eager to watch us bleed. Based on their extensive knowledge of Arctic geopolitics, no doubt.

The only differences seem to be it's now in international writing that hostile countries like China and Russia won't be allowed influence. Which was obviously already national Danish policy. And a promise that if Greenland goes independent, they should try to join NATO. Which they already wanted.

Just finished reading the treaty between Denmark/Greenland and USA. Watching Danish diplomacy at work since the start of 2025 to successfully wrangle a bully into doing what we want has been impressive. Our best work since 1397. But nobody here will ever trust the US again. Generational damage.

Incorrect. These were already the terms of the '51 deal. Plus Greenland's own government were part of the negotiations PLUS it must be approved by naalakkersuisut, Greenland's parliament. It cannot possibly go against Greenland's own wishes. Just another clueless sensationalist.

Not a historian, but been working on a book involving the history of Slesvig. From what I understand, Holsten was considered a member of the German Confederation, yes. The London protocols didn't change its status in that regard.

That's spent on less than 60,000 people living in the world's harshest climate. It's hilarious how you don't have a clue on the cost involved. Plus no reply to the fact that Denmark is a net EU contributor and thus basically paid for this anyway. Another clueless foreigner

Bizarre take. Since ww2, Denmark has built a modern state with education, healthcare, infrastructure in the arctic across 2 million square km. Every year, it spends 500 million euros in direct subsidies plus millions more indirectly. Plus, Denmark is a net EU contributor, so we are footing the bill

We all understand they don't have independence, that's why it's called autonomy. You make strange claims. Greenland's government probably has more autonomy than any other. Can you give examples of your claims? What's an absurd punishment they suffered?

But the investigation was done by Greenland's government. It's their assessment. The only thing the Danish government has done this year is issue an apology and offer compensation to the victims. That's the opposite of what you claimed. Seems you invented something to be mad about too.

As are you, a white american. Greenland has its own government, full autonomy. They decide its future. Everyone agrees on that, everyone agrees their land belongs to them. You stated something obvious and wanted to be applauded for it, got mad when told it was obvious.

These people are here to virtue-signal, not learn. Reading this thread, they have no knowledge of Greenland's politics, never read any news from there, or ever interacted with an Inuk. They just want the internet points for saying the socially correct thing, no matter how obsolete or condescending.

The sane-washing is exhausting. The guy simply says whatever he wants, changes opinion on a whim, is swayed by whoever spoke to him last, and generally doesn't know what's going on anyway. Pretending there's strategy or deeper thought behind it is ridiculous.
