..period of the 1630s. The prunted beaker is an early beer glass with little glass knobs which in the 1500-1600s, allowed you to still hold your drink with your greasy grubby fingers. This type of glass was the forerunner of the more elegant Roemer glass, visible in 17thC paintings, see Claesz et al

Using lead white and lead-tin yellow in a Goldfinch wing. These sculpted highlights catch the light & create sparkle (a 17thC trick). Glazing with schietgeel (a transparent yellow made from buckthorn) provides further depth. #dutchpainting #goldfinch #traditionalpainting #tradition #birdpainting
