Tomorrow, I will pack up the things that I am taking with me from the kitchen of what was our marital home. I'm often overly dramatic. But, it is more than symbolically the end of "hearth and home," and I promised to keep them 34 years ago this August. So, a sad day. But, Sitka on Thursday!

This is the way all reading and language should be taught. But, we drill our kids to death to test comprehension and take all joy out of reading. Let's start asking things like, "What did you love about it?" And, "If you didn't like this story, why not?" That will build real reading stamina.

Before graduation last week, a group of students were talking through their essays on Romeo & Juliet with me. When I started talking about the death scenes, we heard a sharp, tiny inhale & then, "Miss! They die?!" Poor Padme. She is too precious to all of us. We should have protected her.

My best friend in all the world knew "the perfect man" for me for after the divorce. The divorce has taken so long that Mr. Right passed away today. He was a good man. A mechanic with a small farm. He had a truck. A "good hat" and a hat with a sweat stain that was also a good hat.

14 mph wind is gentle. The mountain I climb is small: 2,200ft. The moist lapse rate isn't that bad: 3℉ per 1,000ft. So, 6℉. And, 45℉ isn't bad even if it's raining. But, together that feels like 30-ish℉ by the end. But, worse b/c the water coming at you stays wet. :-(

I think the world of this kid. She's hated me all year. But, just b/c her mother died. She needs me to write a letter for college. I want her to get in. How do I do that honestly-- given that she had emotional outbursts in my class and is definitely not past the volitile part of her grief?
