Finished this finally. It should be called What The Brain Isn't - many good points, but basically a strawman takedown of the whole of neuroscience(!), full of analogy reasoning, esp: the brain is not a computer. In the end a bit tedious and nothing new. It's a negative book.

Symphony no. 3 was written many years after his earlier two, with a couple of world wars in between. He seems to have embraced some Shostakovich (also Mahler fan) in between.
