I've seen lots of folks saying this. I get it. It seems like it makes sense. But it's inaccurate and gives Talarico less credit than it should. In 2021, Talarico did say there are 6 genders. He then explained the existence of chromosomal variations outside of XX and XY.

In this country, we do not swear loyalty to the POTUS. Federal employees, including military, take an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. *ALL enemies.* Even if those enemies are serving in our government.

Reminder for today: The 50501 Movement has planned protests at all 50 state capitols and the U.S. Capitol on Presidents’ Day at noon. While mainstream media isn’t covering the event, many YouTubers have stepped up to provide coverage.

Yes. And social media unfortunately rewards the sensation of "being right" much more than it encourages useful political action. Resist the dopamine boosts and keep focused on the future.

Just because this needs to be said regularly: the patriotic American thing to do is to esteem our Canadian friends and neighbors, guard and respect Canada's right to self-determination, and condemn aggression and bullying whether domestic or international in nature.

They found someone to dismiss the Adams case. My hope (yes, I still have that) is this was a coordinated decision by the attorneys they put together & there's a plan (get the details of duress into the filing? 🤷‍♀️). My fear is it's someone trying to save themselves. www.reuters.com/world/us/fed...

Federal prosecutor will sign motion to dismiss Adams charges in bid to save colleagues' jobs, sources say
A federal prosecutor agreed on Friday to file a motion to dismiss the criminal corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, in a bid to spare other career staff from potentially being fired by the acting deputy attorney general, sources briefed on the matter told Reuters.

Greta Thunberg must have cut him down on social media at some point for him to be thinking this hard about her. (Also, besides being an utterly ridiculous comparison, she's been "scolding" all countries, not just the US.)

Alt text for OP: "The Stonewall Inn and The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative are outraged and appalled by the recent removal of the word transgender" from the Stonewall National Monument page on the National Park Service website." Check out Will's timeline for protest info.
The Stonewall Inn and The Stonewall Inn
Gives Back Initiative are outraged and
appalled by the recent removal of the
word transgender" from the Stonewall
National Monument page on the National
Park Service website. This blatant act of
erasure not only distorts the truth of our
history, but it also dishonors the
immense contributions of transgender
individuals -especially transgender
women of color - who were at the
forefront of the Stonewall Riots and the
broader fight for LGBTQ+ rights.Let us be clear: Stonewall is transgender
history. Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera,
and countless other trans and gender-
nonconforming individuals fought
bravely, and often at great personal risk,
to push back against oppressive systens.
Their courage, sacrifice, and leadership
were central to the resistance we now
celebrate as the foundation of the
modern LGBTQ+ rights movementThis decision to erase the word
transgender' is a deliberate attempt to
erase our history and marginalize the
very people who paved the way for many
victories we have achieved as a
community. It is a direct attack on
transgender people, especially
transgender women of color, who
continue to face violence, discrimination,
and erasure at every turn.

SIGBIWe demand the immediate restoration
of the word transgender on the
Stonewall National Monument website
We will not stand by while the legacies
of our transgender siblings are erased
from the history books. The Stonewall
Inn and The Stonewall Inn Gives Back
Initiative stands unwaveringly in
solidarity with the transgender
community and all who fight for full
equality, and we will not rest until this
grave injustice is corrected.

Following Kendrick's performance yesterday seems like a good time to quote Toni Morrison's essay. Most of us will never have platforms like either of theirs, but that doesn't mean we can't also create meaningful, powerful, subversive, and rebellious art.
No! This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal.

I know the world is bruised and bleeding, and though it is important not to ignore its pain, it is also critical to refuse to succumb to its malevolence. Like failure, chaos contains information that can lead to knowledge—even wisdom. Like art.

Kinda expecting to be put on administrative leave at some point, since last year I received two national-level DEIA awards from the federal agency I work for (one group award, one individual). Especially since I haven't stopped doing the work that got me nominated in the first place.

One of the verboten words in the whole "shut down every federal program related to DEIA" tempest is, unsurprisingly, "inclusive." Which is a word at the forefront of the mission of the agency where I work. Just waiting to see how that plays out. 😡

A job I had hoped for and had gotten to the next stage in the hiring process has been canceled due to the federal hiring freeze. ☹️ My current job is also federal, but I was recognized nationally last year for my DEIA work, so who knows how that will play out. 😡

Do you ever hear someone else's voice as your thoughts? Right now, Alan Rickman is narrating mine (at least, those thoughts that have words). I'm not sure why, but it's weird. 🤷‍♀️

Add alt text to your images. Describe the image like you were describing it to a friend over the phone; don't just use the space for jokes or Easter eggs. I figure with the influx of folks, it's a good time for that reminder.

I don't think it was pain that made him so great, I think painting brought him whatever happiness he had. * RIP David Lynch
People might bring up Vincent van Gogh as an example of a painter who did great work in spite of, or because of, his suffering. I like to think that van Gogh would have been even more prolific and even greater if he wasn't so restricted by the things tormenting him. I don't think it was pain that made him so great, I think painting brought him whatever happiness he had.

I keep going back and forth on this. Right now, I like it. That could change tomorrow. But, ya know, art helps keep us grounded and sane. It's important to create, even when we're not particularly good at it. Maybe especially then. But, yeah, right now I'm digging how the leaves turned out. 🥰

I'm inspired to post about soup.🍲☺️ It's a blustery night here. I'm cozied up w a Chewbacca snuggi and the last of my soup thaws on the kitchen counter. It's vegetable with alphabet noodles, because who says alphabet soup is just for kids? I added more garlic than some like, but this is for me.

Libraries rule. And, at least in the U.S., have physical, ebooks, and audiobooks (along with lots of other cool stuff). And if they don't have the book you want, they may be able to get it through interlibrary loan or even purchasing it based on your request. So use your libraries, everyone!

Ginny Clarke just compared social media to the Matrix, in that people on social media are, essentially, constructs. It was a reminder to be ourselves instead of being a character or believing everyone is who they are.

In March of 1945, the US Army issued this "fact sheet" to guide conversations with soldiers on the topic of fascism, paying particular attention to the ongoing threat that domestic fascist movements posed to the US. Their analysis of what a homegrown US fascism would look like is interesting.
CRESTRICTED]
ORIENTATION
FACT SHEET
64
WAR DEPARTMENT-WASHINGTON 25, D. C. • 24 March 1945 FASCISM!
Note For This Week's Discussion:
Fascism is not the easiest thing to identify and analyze; nor, once in power, is it easy to destroy. It is important for our future and that of the world that as many of us as possible understand the causes and practices of fascism, in order to combat it. Points to stress are: (1) Fascism is more apt to come to power at a time of economic crisis;
(2) fascism inevitably leads to war; (3) it can come to any country; (4) we can best combat it by making our democracy work.

One of the most dangerous things about where I live is that there are three ice cream shops within a five- minute walk.
A bright purple scoop of ice cream sitting atop a pea green scoop of ice cream in a paper cup with a wooden spoon. It is being held toward the camera. Buildings along the city sidewalk are blurred in the background.
