I used to make video game and tech content as a day job, from 2007 to 2020. Now I do QGIS stuff, Ignition SCADA things and water loss reduction shenanigans. I also write books that aren't very good. And I'm trying to make a game about a duck. Also, I run.

Choosing just 9 games to define you is damned hard. Should be 12. Couldn't even fit the racing games.

You know, for kids.
A scene of mannequins being hanged and prop heads on spikes at a historical re-enactment festival in Braila, Romania. For kids. You know. Kids love a good beheading or hanging.

I've been goofing off at work making a learner game before the duck one. After fiddling with a YAML plugin for Godot, I realized that I can just have the engine on my work computer somewhere and edit events in code. Behold, the first screenshot of a game that'll be 3$ in a few months in itch.io.
An early, like, super early, and I mean, oh boy, what did you even post this early, screenshot of a game called Hospital Survival Simulator 2015, previously called Suffering Simulator 2015. It's just a beige background with some bars and some nonsensical text. There's also a framerate counter for some reason. It's not 3D or anything, or 2D for that matter, it's just a UI. The game itself will be about surviving terrible, terrible health related events in terrible, terrible Romanian hospitals. It's based on real world events that happened to me and gave me nightmares for years.
If I can sell enough copies of it, I can buy my blood back.

I keep saying that, it's a reference to a Johnny Bravo episode.

Got a pair of new running shoes. Managed to set a new 5k personal best. The shoes are just 50g lighter than the previous ones, but the difference is gigantic.

I often wonder why I bother to show up to work early or on time when no one else seems that interested.
A man looking at his watch which reads 8 AM. He is standing in front of a locked door to an office building. He has a set of keys in the door. The picture is meant to signify that no one else showed up on time for work. There is a sadness in his soul that won't go away, not until he is free of this place. And even then, the years spent here, the toll they have taken, will leave marks that may never heal. Maybe help him out by buying his book. That Tale of Doom thing. It's in the bio.

In 2023 I managed to run 99km in a year. That's when I took part in the first 4k run at the Braila half-marathon. This month alone I have covered 100km and ran my first half-marathon distance. I'm still not fast, but I a really far away.
A strava achievement poster for reaching 100km in the month of June 2026.

More than that, my HR dropped an entire zone lower. Now, provided the sensor didn't go crazy... and.. well, the sensor on the old watch wasn't super either, but, I can feel it. I've gotten to the point where I can run well. I mean, I'm not fast, can't do 6m/km for more than 1.5k, but it's progress.
2023 heartrate, Zone 3 dominates, a bit in zone 4, little in zone 2.2026 heartrate, mostly zone 2, a little zone 3, some zone 1

When I started to really get into running, in 2023, I did my first 5K at about the same pace. Looking over the stats, I added a lot of Tempo.
2023 pace, mostly endurance2026 pace, still mostly endurace, but a lot of tempo

Ran a half-marathon distance for the first time ever. Took 2:58:12. It didn't feel easy, but I had an average pace of around 8:27 (strava says 8:17 because it stopped counting when I was refilling water bottles and so didn't record the entire 3 hours, losing me that challenge trophy this month).
A cropped image from a STRAVA activity, showing "Fastest Half-Marathon ever" as a badge, a plotted course that's going in an oval for 80 laps of 400m, and a picture of a watch displaying the running stats, with a cap, sunglasses and shoe in the background.

1:15:14 finish time, plus the 3 minutes it took to get to the starting line. Not by best time, but enough to finish the 10k race at the OMV Bucharest half Marathon event.

Denethor really needs to tone it down.
The name Boromir written in giant letters on several buildings, as seen through the windows of a train in a freight station. The building belongs to the Boromir company, which manufactures baking goods. The joke is that Denethor, father of Boromir and Faramir, from Lord of the Rings, would absolutely have Boromir's name on buildings, ignoring his other son.

Periodically, I am reminded that even our park is in the shape of a knife. (Context: This is the Monument park in the city of Braila, Romania. The city has a reputation as the knife crime capital of the country since... about 100 or so years I guess. )
A map taken from the Strava running application, displaying a course in the Monument Park of the city of Braila, Romania. The course passes through the main pathways on the outside rim of the park, and through the middle. It forms the easily recognizable shape of a knife. Yes, people have been stabbed in the park.

Finally. With DLSS5 I can Yaaaaasify all video games. The dream of everyone that ever made a video game has come true. Gone are the days of making a character look like something. Everything is Yaaaaasified out of the box. The prophecy of this picture has been brought to live by Nvidia.

At some point, I have to ask someone who knows. Did having a frame be composed of just shades of a single color save on performance? Is that why they did it? Because anyone who loves their eyes would have not done this without a good reason. I have to know. Say, @jesawyer.bsky.social , any clue?

This guy randomly showed up at the end of a Coyotee Mission end-game base defense... the clans aren't here yet, I've got no mods for mechs bigger than 100T... so I guess I'm steamrolling the map in this for the next few years in MechWarrior 5.

This shot is brilliant and should be shown in any film study class
A scene from the film "Wake up dead man", part of the "Knives out" series, where a character dramatically opens the doors to a church, with a blood red sun behind her.
I burst out laughing when I saw it. The skeet itself is a reference to a tweet that's been dunked on for the last 6 years about Game of Thrones.

See, you would not have had to put this here if in this game with ray traced light, you could actually see where you're going.

Playing Control AWE, there are yellow tarps everywhere now to show you where to go, but god forbid they use the Ray Tracing they keep going on and on about these days to make the light at the door in the pitch black room shine on the wall next to it si you can actually see it.

The bumpy ball at the center makes it resemble the old Sender Spikes from Anachronox even more. Loved all the nods to it in Mass Effect, with stuff like "Vigil"... but ME2 just outright ripping off the final mission was a bit too on the nose.
