I listened to it again to make sure I wasn't misremembering, but nope. If you're trying to learn audio engineering and need a good lesson in how not to use a compressor or limiter, "Choosin' Texas" is one of the worst, most amateur examples I've ever heard. Hashtag gain staging!

I'm doing the 9 games thing. It's funny how this reveals that I suddenly got about 120 hours of free time during C19.
A 3x3 grid of the cover art of "my 9 games"
The games are:

Tetris (1989, GB/DMG)

certified Arch Linux moment
Screenshot of an Arch-announce Digest e-mail, which is a newsletter you can subscribe to for notifications about, usually, stuff that is gonna break the next time you install package upgrades on your Arch Linux computer.

It says:
Message: 1
Date: Fri, 12 Jun 2026 18:41:28 -0000
From: "Arch Linux: Recent news updates: Campbell Jones"
        <arch-announce@lists.archlinux.org>
Subject: [arch-announce] Active AUR malicious packages incident
To: arch-announce@lists.archlinux.org
Message-ID: <178128968875.1115.9742495653011810252@archlinux>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"

We are currently experiencing a high volume of malicious package adoptions and updates in the Arch User Repository.

We are actively working to track down existing malicious commits and attempting to prevent additional malicious commits from being pushed.
While this is happening, and while we work to create a more permanent solution, users may see issues with the following:

- Creating new accounts on the AUR
- Pushing package updates
- Adopting or creating new packages

We continue to encourage all users of AUR packages to review *all* PKGBUILD and install script changes when updating, especially during this time.
If you notice suspicious commits to a package that you use, please reach out to Arch staff via the aur-general mailing list with more information.

No I'm pretty sure this is a deepfake. There was a photo of heaven that leaked last year and it looks nothing like that.
"Leaked photo of heaven is going viral on social media. No wonder Christian's are so determined to get there! 😍"

The infamous AI slop heaven photo, which is either black and blue or white and gold.

This post is a joke. Reply sincerely at your own peril.

Exactly! Every time I look it's like they've reinvented the whole lineup. Further research has informed me they did these in 2009 though, so I didn't realize quite how long I've been holding onto this

Random sampling of some of the stuff I found. There's more but some of those CDs are from bands so hyper-local to where I grew up I would basically be doxxing myself.
A pile of old CDs I picked up from seeing shows or bought from bands on MySpace circa 2006–2010

Clockwise from top left:
Caldwell - "White Flags"
The City's Finest - "It's a Physical Addiction"
My Epic - "This Is Rescue"
Any Port in a Storm - "High Fives All Around"
The Apathy Eulogy - "Beauty for Ashes"

Forgot the alt text.
Screenshot of a post from that Mike Mansick guy's thread that everyone is rightfully clowning on right now. It says:
"I don't think everyone needs to use AI. I don't think it's good that AI is being shoved everywhere when it's not wanted or asked for. But I don't find the complete hatred of all AI tools productive or helpful to building a better internet. And others appear to be feeling the same thing."

He's whining because he thinks there's some huge cohort of GenAI enthusiasts who are being forced to remain on X because they can't post about how great LLMs are on here without getting run out of town on a rail.

"I have to couch my real opinion in some nonspecific criticism of AI so people don't throw tomatoes at me, but you have to get used to AI because it's not going away" is just "He's your president too" for an only slightly different type of idiot.

I think about this every time I hear the song. It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever read.
The Mariners' Church in Detroit (the "Maritime Sailors' Cathedral" mentioned in "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald") honoured [Gordon] Lightfoot the day after his death by ringing its bell a total of 30 times, 29 for each of the crewmen lost on the Edmund Fitzgerald and the final time for Lightfoot himself.

They made scary 3D Minesweeper! It's called "The Mine Room" and it's on Steam. This rocks!
A screenshot of the game "The Mine Room"
There is a large cube with the classic minesweeper flag on it in the near distance. Another cube labeled "1" has dropped into the floor in front of me. The room is dark aside from a small bit of light in front of the player/camera, and the whole scene is draped in a thick greenish haze.Screenshot of the end of the round showing the "overhead" view, which looks more like the traditional minesweeper game. I wasn't kidding. I am going to write a good article that doesn't suck about retro tech and physical media just to prove it can be done. (It does currently suck so no backseat editing)
Screenshot of my text editor, showing a portion of a piece I'm writing called "Peak Consumer Technology and Foreclosed Futures"

The excerpt reads:

Nevertheless, we were _desperate_ to get away from hauling CDs around with us everywhere, switching them in and out of players, and losing our favorite albums to an accidental scratch, so we put up with the lower audio quality and poor experience of early mp3 players because it was such a major improvement in convenience.

Of course, improvements in data storage and battery technologies quickly made portable digital music players so good that you never needed to leave your house with a CD again even if you were obsessed with audio quality. Buying an iPod instead of another Discman was so clearly the better option that it wasn't even worth considering.

So how did we end up where we are today? Why are people buying CD players again? Why are people buying _portable_ CD players again?! Go back to these old devices, and you'll very quickly rediscover exactly why we all ditched our CD players for iPods as soon as we could.

Sure, it makes sense that people want to buy CDs to maintain some ownership of the contents of their music libraries, but a $20 USB CD/DVD drive is all you need to get those CDs ripped onto your computer, in whatever format you want, and copy them to every device you own. There's no reason to ever _play_ a CD. Right?

Then again, there's no reason to play a vinyl record either. They're objectively a worse medium for storing recorded music than Compact Disc. Their dynamic range is lower, they're harder to clean and more sensitive to mishandling, they're bigger and heavier and take up more space, and they're often about twice as expensive. Yet in 2026, more people are buying vinyl than CDs.

So...is it _maybe_ about inconvenience after all?

No. Of course not. What, are you stupid?

A screenshot of a project in Ableton Live's arrangement view, with 53 audio and midi tracks/groups. All the tracks are "collapsed" so their data is represented as blocks of grey (with the exception of one track which I made a light teal color for some reason), and it looks a lot like someone doing some weird conditional formatting in Excel.

So I guess Kanye albums are now some kind of make-work program for rapists and has-beens
For some, there’s simply no road back for this once-ubiquitous hip-hop star, but the quantifiable chart successes of 2024’s twin VULTURES volumes with Ty Dolla $ign suggest no small appetite for Ye’s latter-day output. With BULLY , and its preceding apologia, the artist formerly known as Kanye West steps back into the spotlight to be inevitably judged by those who choose to hear it.

Having expanded his 2025 stopgap three-track EP of the same name into this full-length effort, with the previously released songs couched towards the album’s end, he swiftly summarizes his situation on opener “KING,” its electronic prog-rock underpinning recalling the maximalism of 2010’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy . Yet much of the new material here scarcely surpasses the two-minute mark, including “HIGHS AND LOWS” and “WHATEVER WORKS.” That abbreviated approach allows him to revisit signature styles defined earlier in his years, evidenced by the chopped soul of “PUNCH DRUNK,” as well as play with more contemporary forms like the trap-informed “THIS A MUST.”

While Ye’s voice and perspective invariably drives BULLY , a select number of guests also make notable contributions. Onetime protege Travis Scott returns for the frenzied single “FATHER,” while Scott’s own Cactus Jack signee Don Toliver shows up for the sample-laden segue “CIRCLES.” Mere weeks after dropping the third and final Gnarls Barkley album, CeeLo Green delivers a characteristically boisterous feature on the Tarantino-esque title track. Yet by the finale, “THIS ONE HERE,” Ye’s once again on his own, singing with autobiographical urgency over James Blake’s airy co-production.

This is what peak gaming looks like.
If you don't care about the actual nerd tech stuff, this is a photo of Syphon Filter 3 about to be played the hell out of. If you do care about the tech, it's my old PSone connected to a cheap 13.3" portable HD monitor via a simple (also cheap) upscaler/adapter. There is a PSxMemCard Gen2 plugged into the Memory Card 1 slot, an old generic 1MB card plugged into the Memory Card 2 slot, and an 8BitDo wireless controller adapter in the first controller port. On the desk in front of the display is the CD case for Syphon Filter 3, and the 8BitDo SN30 Pro wireless controller. This is a peak PS1 gaming experience.

Years of @libbycwatson.com VODs have conditioned my brain to respond a certain way when seeing a small TV installed in an awkward location, so now an ER visit includes a nice little treat just for me.
Tiny television, barely larger than the wall clock a few feet away, hung in the corner of a hospital exam room, right next to the entrance.

Also the room is really dark because it's like 3 AM and the doc was nice enough to turn off the lights. :)
